This drive functions quite well as a blu ray writer/reader and so on. If you're looking to use it in an HTPC I would recommend it simply because it's one of the few products that provide all the functionality of a full 5-1/4" blu ray writer/reader combo drive in a slim slot loading design, but be aware that it is a tad noisy when in use. Given the limitations of it's size and performance demands I'm not surprised by the noise and it's tolerable. Once you get used to it it will fade into the background of your movies. It comes with the jeweler (small) size screws needed to secure it and with the appropriate adapter cable.

If your case can accommodate a full 5-1/4" drive I would recommend purchasing one of those instead, but you probably wouldn't be looking at this if your case didn't require something of this design. In that case, you wont go wrong buying this.

We just finished a custom computer build for a customer. We used Silverstone 12.7 mm SATA Interface Slot Load 8X CD/DVD RW Drive and Silverstone Tek Micro-ATX, DTX, Mini-ITX Steel Body Mini Tower Computer Case, Black SG09B.

We noticed a few people's reviews talked about the issue with the cd ejecting. When we just did the build for our Client we ran into the same issue.

The way to fix this is to remove the front plate of the Optical drive before mounting the optical drive into the SG09B case. There is 2 clips on the top front of the drive. Push them in carefully and pull the front plate forward. Carefully disengage the clips on the side. You are now ready to install the optical drive into the SG09B case.

The Optical drive works fine. Does what it is suppose to. CD's eject the right way now as well.

Drive is a little loud but not that bad really. Have no complaints about the hardware aspect of it (bit on the expensive side) however the powerDVD10 suite that comes with it does not support blu-rays. DVD's work great but when trying to play a blu-ray it comes back with this error:

The integrity of cyberlink power dvd is at risk. check antivirus software for malicious activities

^ google it and you will see that everyone with a bundled package is having this error. So again nothing against the drive but dont think that you are getting a good deal because $60 software comes with it....when contacting cyberlink on this matter they tell you that upgrading to the latest version will fix the issue. First of all thats a scam...makes you believe that the error is on purpose...it was never there before. Second, upgrading does not actually fix the issue, again google the error message and countless fourms come up about this issue and upgrading does not help.

My reason for only 2 stars is because you are paying a lot for a drive that is supposed to be included with $60 software to play blu-rays but you dont actually get it.

I originally did not think that you needed the adapter for the sata connections, but for the SATA based Slim line DVD drive the adapter IS REQUIRED. While the data cable is the same on the sata slim line drives the power connection is about half the width. The best part about this product is it comes with this $5 or so adapter and it is a decent legnth too.

It's loud. But still works. I'm not really fond of the mechanical noise it makes during a burn or reading. I think that we have progressed to a point in technology where audible sounds are an issue and should be taken more seriously.

You clearly wouldn't think about this drive unless you have real intentions to have a slot-loaded CD drive, like I did. It works great and fits like a glove in the Silverstone Tek 5.25-Inch Aluminum Cover Bay Converter for Slot-Load Slim Optical Disk Drive. Who would've guessed? Sure it's an overpriced piece of legacy hardware, but until USB OS installs become the norm, we're stuck keeping CD drives around

I feel this drive Is a bit expensive for what you get. Sure it works great and plays/burns any/all optical media. But the price is a bit high for my liking. It is the only option for people that use an Ncase PC case as far as I know and I think this might be taken advantage of. The drive is lso a bit slow, and loud. But it does work and do what it is supposed to.

Finally! A DVD combo drive that works perfectly for the Fractal Node 804 case. Plus it comes in its own packaging and includes mounting screws and a combo SATA/power cable that will hook up to your mobo and PSU respectively. No need to purchase anything additional. Only drawback is that it's a little noisy, but I'll take it after having to return two previous drives for incompatibility. Runs on a Linux box without any configuration necessary (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS).

There aren't many drives compatible with the Node 804. You need a 12.7mm slot-loading drive. The LG GS40N is 9.5mm and doesn't fit, even though PC Part Picker says it does. This is the cheapest one I've been able to find.
