Product Description

Continuing with the popular slim form factor HTPC, the Milo ML06 HTPC case is the smallest in the Milo series to-date and yet still able to fit modern day components. Although measuring only 7 liters in size (half the size of Micro-ATX based ML03), it can accommodate Mini-ITX motherboard, SFX power supply and install up to four 2.5" hard drives. An innovative multipurpose 4-in-1 bracket also allows installation of a slim optical drive, a 3.5" hard drive, two 2.5" drives, or a 120mm fan depending on user's requirement. Complementing a superbly compact design is a beautiful aluminum front panel finished with hairline brush pattern that seamlessly integrates into home theater environments, making ML06 the best petite HTPC case on the market.

Everything fits very nicely.

With 2 80mm fans for moving lots of air through it, it stays cool with a low profile CPU fan(necessary) and the PSU fan never turns on.

Overall this is a very well designed case and I highly recommend it.

I like the small size of this case. That makes routing all of the cables a bit difficult, but I got the job done and that's just part of the game if you want a small case. I originally was planning to install one of my 3.5 inch hard drives above the CPU, but decided against it even though I had to buy a new 2.5 inch drive. I felt that it was far more important to keep the area above the CPU open for air flow purposes than to reuse my 3.5 inch drive. New 2.5 inch drives are cheap now anyway, so I picked up a 1TB drive and don't regret it. The 2.5 inch drive not only has more capacity, but also runs cooler and quieter. Total 2.5 inch drives installed = one SSD for OS and apps, one 250GB HDD for backing up the SSD, and one 1TB HDD for media storage. I still have one unused 2.5 inch bay. My i7-4771 CPU idles at about 42 degrees C and good air flow helps to achieve that. My CPU cooler is a Titan DC-155A915Z/RPW. This is a very low profile cooler. I wouldn't have needed one that low because of not installing the 3.5 inch drive, but as long as I already had it, I installed it and it seems to be working well.

The case seems to be built to a high level of precision. Everything fits very nicely. The memory that I used has a heatsink with low profile, and that proved to be a good move because you will route several wires in the area of the memory, and tall heatsinks would interfere or possibly even cut the wiring that it comes in contact with.

I did not install a DVD drive in this case. I had a 5.25 inch Bluray drive in my old computer, so I simply will be using that along with a SATA to USB 3.0 adapter as an external optical drive for the few times that I need it. That arrangement may not work for you if you use DVD's a lot, but I hardly ever need to use a DVD anymore.

I wanted a new case for my Asrock Z87E-ITX motherboard because the old one was a bit large for the vintage buffet that I'm using for an entertainment console. I also wanted a case that would let me install a slot-loading Blu-ray drive. There aren't a lot of choices out there, so I was really happy to find the ML-06.

Construction is solid, as you would expect, and there were no surprises when it came to opening up the case. I was pleased to see that Silverstone hadn't used any oddball fasteners; they were all Philips-head screws. However, I thought it was odd that they used silver screws to attach the top panel and the power supply given that the case is black.

I had Silverstone's SFX power supply in the old case, so I just moved it over along with the motherboard. Power supply goes in first, and you WILL need the modular cables for it, because space is at a heavy premium when you get everything installed. The motherboard drops in and attaches with 4 screws. I moved the pair of 2.5" hard drives from the old case into the drive cage (I also have an mSATA drive attached directly to the motherboard). Although Silverstone says you can put 4 drives in the cage, poor placement of one set of holes (at least in my unit) means you can really only put in 3. And given the lack of room in the case, you can really only put 2 drives in the case because you need the space in the cage to stuff some of the wires.

I attached my Blu-ray drive to the bottom of the multipurpose bracket, and then went to put it back in the case. I was disappointed to find out that my Zalman CPU cooler, which I though was pretty low-profile, is too tall; the bracket will go back in on its own, but not with the drive hanging from it. Dang!

This is a good box, but there's a few things you need to be aware of or else you could end up very frustrated. First of all, it's small, which can make things like cable management tricky. The first thing I installed was two 80mm case side fans, and just doing that was tricky because of the tight space. Now, a previous reviewer said that it can't take a 3.5" HDD. That's not strictly true. The 'multipurpose' bracket can house either an optical drive (slim), OR a 3.5" drive, OR a pair of 2.5" drives, OR a 120mm fan. Also, there's very little clearance above the CPU for the cooler, especially with a 3.5" drive, you have only 37mm above the processor. The factory intel cooler is too big, so I used a CNPS2X. Even with the low-profile cooler, it's still not much clearance, which probably lowers the efficiency of the cooler. Even so, everything is running at very reasonable temps and fan speeds. (55 W TDP). Solidly built and high quality, no comlaints here.

Excellent SFF case. With 2 80mm fans for moving lots of air through it, it stays cool with a low profile CPU fan(necessary) and the PSU fan never turns on. Therefore, it's extremely quiet.

Room for 2 80mm fans (optional) get them!

Room for a slim Optical Mail-slot type drive (not using)

mounting for 4 2.5in. drives or 1 3.5in. drive. WARNING: 3.5 mount interferes with CPU cooler space!

Requires SFX PSU. Get from Silverstone.

Overall this is a very well designed case and I highly recommend it. My one complaint echoes those in other comments: integration of a 3.5" HDD is awkward in that it must sit directly over the processor, (which requires you to buy a low profile processor fan in most cases). In reality if they had increased the height of the box by about 2-3mm (or lowered the MB screw posts) this would not be necessary...
