I since purchased Silverstone Tek EC01-P PCI Express Card with USB 3.0 Internal 19-pin Dual Port Connector - it installed fine and works like a charm.

Works great so far. No issues with usb 3.0 port, micro sd/m2 slot, sd/mmc slot, and ms/pro/duo slot. Unable to test the other two slots as I don't have xD or CF media. Uses a single 19/20 pin USB 3.0 mother board header cable for the entire device, unlike the fake USB 3.0 card readers out there which use one USB 3.0 cable for the USB 3.0 passthrough port but use a separate USB 2.0 header cable for the card reader itself. There's also no brand logo on the faceplate, so this will complement any case setup. The SS logo on the face plate does not stand for SilverStone but is the SuperSpeed logo.

Benchmark Update #2: Windows 8 Consumer Preview appears to have improved USB 3.0 support. Also able to test xD and CF cards. All without issues.

The Extreme Pro SDXC card is now hitting 85-90 MB/s (still not quite 95MB/s as advertised but getting closer) and the CF version is hitting 90 MB/s (just as advertised). As for the passthrough port, now hitting about 250 MB/s with a SSD in a USB 3.0 enclosure. Installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on the Mac Mini and ran ATTO. Read speed on the PCI-E card reader is 80.1 MB/s. So, at least in Windows 8, the usb 3.0 card reader is hitting higher speeds than the pci-express reader.

Benchmark Update #1: Using SanDisk Extreme Pro 64GB SDXC UHS-I card.

*I ORIGINALLY RATED THIS PRODUCT A 1-STAR BUT HAVE SINCE UPDATED THE REVIEW (SEE BELOW)*

[ Original review starts here... ]

As a photographer, I tend to handle large RAW files and USB 3.0 was a must in my new PC build. Although my PC has external USB 3.0 ports which I could connect a card reader to, I wanted an internal one for less clutter. The product has a nice clean look with no manufacturer logo on the front and uses one 19/20 internal USB 3.0 header (so make sure your motherboard supports it.) The CF card is inserted upside down, but this seems to be the norm for most of these type of readers from what I've seen (probably due to how the internals have to be orientated for this small size?) Also, removal of the card could be a bit smoother - a slight angle seems to make the CF card catch a bit.

After my PC build, this was the only component that didn't work properly. After updating all drivers, it still wouldn't work. Only the USB port would work - testing my CF and SD cards would yield no results.

I did some research and looking over the manufacturer's website, I noticed a firmware update that could be applied. However, both of the available firmware updates would not work. The update would state that the device was not found. On the website, there is another user who commented with the same problem of having only the USB port work and being unable to update the firmware. Realizing this wasn't an isolated problem I decided to e-mail the manufacturer directly. Response was quick and the customer service representative replied saying that he would send me an adapter to properly update the firmware. The quick reply was welcome, a good sign of customer service - but not including this adapter which is needed for any firmware updates is ridiculous.

I bought this and installed it to hopefully speed up the time it took to transfer the photos from my 16gb and 32gb compact flash cards onto my computer.

I have a recently built gaming/photo-editing (workhorse) desktop with excellent components.

After initial installation, it worked - easily doubling and sometimes tripling the speed of my USB 2.0 based external reader.

However, I began to notice that the reader would randomly lock up and require a restart. Otherwise, I would plug in a memory card, and it would take about 2-3 minutes just to initially read it to open up the root folder (and the folder would always be empty when it finally did).

I gave it 1 star review because the point of this product is to save time. However, when I have to close everything and restart my computer every other time I want to use transfer something, it negates the point of the product.

When I first plugged this into my computer, the drivers attempted to installed and one of them failed (there was approx 6 different lines for devices being installed.) I assumed it was a driver issue etc and looked into. My first stop was at the manufacturer's page to check for available downloads. At the product page's download tab at the bottom, there was none available.
You MUST click on the support tab at the top of Silverstone's website, then click on downloads. Choose accessories, then the FP37. Click search, and there is a FIRMWARE update available. The updater is 176KB and once opened, you simply run the application, it updates, and all of a sudden there you have it, all the drivers get green checks!!
I gave it four stars for not working perfectly out of the box and a less than 100% user friendly website for support. Overall the product works perfectly, looks great in the previously unused 3.5" bay and is very fast. Outperformed my onboard usb 3.0 found at rear of MB. Lovely product, but I save my 5 star awards for products that are darn near perfect, and this falls slightly below that margin.
On Windows 7 x64 Ultimate SP1, ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard, Intel i53570k, 8 GB DDR3 RAM.

Lastly, wrote an email to manufacturer's support team notifying them of lacking download on web page, hopefully they will fix it.
