5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing short of brilliant, May 6, 2009
This review is from: Silvertongue (Hardcover)
Silvertongue is the third and final book in the Stoneheart series. (Note to Mr. Fletcher: Thank you, thank you for not going 7 books deep....) I have loved this series from the beginning. (See my reviews on Stoneheart and Ironhand.) Fletcher's prose is brilliant; it's crisp, fluid, engaging, at times comic, at other times poignant. The books are worth gifting to kids just for that reason. But there is so much more in these books....

We all love a story in which an underdog kid finds a way to triumph--to become strong as he struggles with adversity. These books have two such kids--a boy and a girl. I've read a lot of fiction in my day... Edie stands as one of my all-time favorite heroines. Yeah, she kicks... well, she's really strong. Love that.

There are other characters to love as well--the Gunner, Spout, Dictionary--as Fletcher has created a delightful cast of well-rounded beings who are loveably imperfect and wonderfully unique.

And there's more: Fletcher adds (very carefully--so kids aren't slugged over the head with it) enough history and mythology to raise these books to an intellectual level that even stuffy grown-ups will enjoy.

I cannot say enough about how much good stuff is in here for kids (without giving away some of my favorite stuff--and I hate spoilers). I strongly recommend this series for kids of all ages. As the final act, Silvertongue is a thrilling ride and absolute page turner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Convinced, January 21, 2011

Lucien Black (Orange County, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Silvertonuge is the final book in the Stoneheart Trilogy by Charlie Fletcher. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two books. I loved the characters and the concept, the plot and the pace. Book three is just not of the same caliber. I am not sure what happened with this book. The story ground to a halt right out of the gate, with two or three chapters of dream sequences that made little sense. New characters were introduced, but in such a way that one didn't have any loyalty to them in order to keep you interested. It seems as though this was a two book story, that got stretched into a trilogy. Not the best of the bunch.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Current Favorite, October 11, 2009
This review is from: Silvertongue (Hardcover)
(This review is from my 9 year old son):

Silvertongue is the 3rd book in the Stoneheart Trilogy, and it is my favorite. While this was the third book, Charlie Fletcher kept my interest by introducing lots of new characters and new plots. I love these books because he writes in a way that makes me not want to put the book down. I am a fourth grader and I like fantasy and medieval books.
