Rodriguez is like a Bob Dylan of Latin America. I first heard his music in Costa Rica and fell in love with the beauty and the emotion found in the song "Quien Fuera." His guitar playing is first class talent. His songs are a perfect blend of complexity and simplicity. He uses songs to make a statement about politics and the world we live in. He is first a poet, then a guitarist, then a singer, doing all three with soul-filled grace. One can compare him to someone like Mercedes Sosa, both of whom helped to create the Nueva Trova music found in Latin America in the 60's when these singers used music to make a statment about their society which challenged the actions of the governments both within their own countries and externally. I highly recommend this both for the music and the history lesson it provides.

I continue to be in awe with the words and sounds of Silvio Rodriguez' compositions. His style is so mystical and omnipresent with the world. He speaks directly from the political and revolutionary to the psyche and soul of mankind. And yet, he comes to the level of the average, further enticing them to look beyond what is seen.
