PIENSO QUE SILVIO ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES EN SU GENERO,SU FORMA DE EXPRESAR LO QUE MUCHOS QUISIERAMOS,

Rodriguez is like a Bob Dylan of Latin America. I first heard his music in Costa Rica and fell in love with the beauty and the emotion found in the song "Quien Fuera." His guitar playing is first class talent. His songs are a perfect blend of complexity and simplicity. He uses songs to make a statement about politics and the world we live in. He is first a poet, then a guitarist, then a singer, doing all three with soul-filled grace. One can compare him to someone like Mercedes Sosa, both of whom helped to create the Nueva Trova music found in Latin America in the 60's when these singers used music to make a statment about their society which challenged the actions of the governments both within their own countries and externally. I highly recommend this both for the music and the history lesson it provides.

I continue to be in awe with the words and sounds of Silvio Rodriguez' compositions. His style is so mystical and omnipresent with the world. He speaks directly from the political and revolutionary to the psyche and soul of mankind. And yet, he comes to the level of the average, further enticing them to look beyond what is seen. This CD is one of many examples of Silvio's brilliance

Este es el primer disco de la Trilogía que Silvio bautizó con su propio nombre; el CD nos da un viaje de poesia y canción, en donde podemos encontrar temas como "El Necio", un tema de alto contenido social, donde Silvio nos muestra su fidelidad a la Revolución Cubana; también encontramos temas como "Quien Fuera", la que sin duda es una de esas canciones que van más allá de una simple composición musical y nos adentra a algo más que un sentir, temas como estos perece ser que solo Silvio pudo haberlos compuesto. Al final del disco Silvio nos regala una fantastica melodia: "Crisis", no tine letra alguna, pero Silvio nos transmite lo que algún día su padre le enseñó: "La vida es bella y en colores".

Silvio Rodriguez is a giant Cuban musician. His songs combine the popular and the ellaborated, love and politics, guitar and voice, in expressive and surprising ways. This album, throughout which he's accompanied only by his guitar, is one of his masterpieces. It includes gems such as "Quien Fuera"-once you've heard this song for the first time you'll never be able to forget it, "Hombre" -moving song dedicated to "Che" Guevara, or "Y Mariana", a delightful fable about inconformism. Knowing Spanish (or having some Spanish speaker at hand) will be a great advantage, since lyrics play a key role in Silvio's work. If you already own this album or are intersted in the rest of Silvio's discography, I'd suggest "Mujeres" and "Al final de este viaje".

Cuando escuche por primera vez Quien fuera me enamore de esta cancion; aun cuando no era Silvio el que la interpretaba; y creo que esto es de lo mas valioso de la obra de Silvio que quien sea tan sensible y capaz de expresar lo que siente puede cantar a Silvio. No tengo mucho de haberlo conocido pero creo que lo escuchare por siempre.

El primer disco de la trilogia "Silvio-Rodriguez-Dominguez" es una obra maestra. En la composicion "Quien fuera" Silvio nos deja ver en su interior un poco de quien es el, y como llego donde esta. Es ademas un tributo a aquellos que el admira como nosotros lo admiramos a el. "El necio" sera por siempre mi favorita, y la de muchos otros que no solo admiran al canta-autor, sino al ser humano. En su totalidad el disco es el perfecto comienzo de una trilogia que nos pinta un retrato intimo de Silvio Rodriguez.
