Product Description

Platform: Mac Download

What kind of future will you build for your city? Will you create a utopian society underpinned by clean technology, or allow a giant corporation to plunder and pollute in the name of feeding your Sims’ insatiable consumerism? In addition to expanding outward, cities will have the ability to build into the sky with enormous multi-zone MegaTowers. Education and research will help you discover new technologies that make your cities less polluted, less reliant on natural resources, managed day-to-day by service drones, and as a byproduct– at risk for resource-draining giant robot attacks on your city As the population increases, your Sims will live, work, and play closer together. Whether they do so in harmony and prosperity or as members of an exploited workforce is up to you.

KEY FEATURES
  • Build into the Sky - Create towering multi-zone MegaTowers that allow your Sims to live, work, and play without ever having to touch the ground.
  • Corporate Consumerism vs. Green Utopian - Unlock two new city specializations that allow you to build a resource-hungry mega corporation powered by a low-wealth workforce, or an urban utopia that develops clean technology and is controlled by the rich.
  • Transform Tomorrow - Watch your city transform as it adapts to the changing times, with new options based on real-world technology such as Mag Levs that rise above the city streets and small buildings, futurized vehicles, and service drones.
  • New Disaster - Brace yourself for an all-new type of disaster only fitting a technologically-advanced economy: a giant robot attack on your city!

1.0 out of 5 stars Cynically manipulative December 12, 2013
By S P
Platform for Display:Mac Download
EA, we are disappointed with your cynically manipulative approach to customers. SimCity was badly broken and you have told us repeatedly that you have no plans to fix it - that large cities, for instance, are impossible. Not only have your statements been misleading on a technical level but they also underscore the essential laziness that defines your approach to gaming. Cash farming is what EA does best, and Cities of Tomorrow perpetuates the long-standing tradition. Overpriced and without fixes to the core problems of the original, you're not getting much out of this.

You're paying EA to rent (not own) a copy of a badly broken game. You're paying to be constantly checked in upon to make sure you're not pirating or cheating or (worst of all) playing offline.

You can encourage this manipulation or you can go play something else. Your choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would be ok if they fixed the problems... January 26, 2014
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Verified Purchase
SimCity is a great game, it's fun to build and balance all the pieces together to get a working city that makes money and keeps people happy, then how to grow this city within the space given, and keep the balance so you don't go broke!

However, this iteration of the game is riddled with performance problems. The game runs great for the first month or so of ingame time. Once you start advancing your technology and get above 10k residents the game starts to get very sluggish, this is on an average computer in the lowest settings, so it should run ok al the way through. All the way to the point where it is next to impossible to even play because your city has 200k+ residents and so many particle effects and data being sent to their servers that it grinds to a halt.

Then, on top of performance issues, many, many, many people (including me) report cities they have worked for 48+ real life hours in suddenly unable to be played, as in "We're sorry this region is not available please try again later" and it never is playable again, you might as well just throw it all away, and start a new city.

Very frustrating. Not worth the money. Maybe when EA releases stand alone mode it will fix these problems... but now, it's trash.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Download Experience November 22, 2013

My worst download experience ever. Buy it directly from Origin and save the hassle. I will hopefully get a refund and not waste this money.

Game is great, having to purchase something but download through a third party is a total ripoff. Not only was I led to believe that my Mac (which is up to date and has lots of processing and room) was adequate, but after the purchase I found out it was a total scam just to get my money. Only able to access one of the five Sims Games (not this one) and could only access them by being on line. I purchased them for my 8 year olds birthday. I do not feel that allowing an 8 year old to do things on line is safe. Evidently the company Electronic Arts do not care if young children are on line. The only way they will allow you to use their package is on line. This should of been stated when I made the purchase. It is sad I did not learn until they already took my money for an download that I can not access and if I could, I could only access through their Origin site and by my 8 year old being on line when he uses the game.

Honesty and ideas of protecting the people buying your product is down the tubes. It is all about the share holders of Electronic Arts making more money -even if they did it by slimy ways. I am starting to feel old. I learned when i was younger the buyer is to be treated with respect, currently America needs to change this to let the buyer beware!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simcity: Cities of Tomorrow February 26, 2014
By Matt
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Verified Purchase
I've loved Simcity ever since Simcity 2000, so of course I had to buy the new edition of the Simcity franchise. There are still a few kinks that need to be resolved, but definitely better then the debacle when the game was first released. I am looking forward to the new update (update 10), which will hopefully address a few key areas of interest for many, myself included. The addition of a modding community, offline mode and hopefully in the near future, if not by EA, then hopefully a modder, larger maps. All are of course welcomed additions to the game.

As for the expansion of Cities of Tomorrow, I highly recommend it to those looking to expand their Simcity experience. Cities of Tomorrow brings new buildings, including Mega Towers, The Academy, and of course Omega Co. A new disaster Outworlder 6. As well as a plethora of other buildings for parks, futuristic buildings, the maglev station, as well as new utility buildings.

*** Word of Caution*** This version of the expansion for Simcity: Cities of Tomorrow, does NOT include the Cyclops Roller Coaster crown for the Mega Tower. However, you can buy Simcity: Cities of Tomorrow on the official Simcity website and that should include the coaster crown. At last check it was on sale for $20.99 instead of $29.99.

1.0 out of 5 stars Game Never Made Available May 13, 2014
By Gamer06
Platform for Display:Mac Download|Verified Purchase
Amazon has some kind of deal with a site called Origin which is owned by EA. I bought the game, but there is no way to access it through Origin. This is after I was made to jump through multiple hoops to download the Origin client, create an account...etc. I even dealt w/ the customer support via chat, and all they managed to say was...let me check your account and...I don't see your purchase of the game. Well...there is $19.95 deducted from my account, so you have no problem seeing my money. Stay away from Origin, EA, and know that when you download games from Amazon, you are in for a lot of hoops to jump through and may never get the game you paid for.

This is apparently an on-game content, so you still have to purchase the game from Origin. Don't even bother... Seriously. Too much of a hassle.
