Simbolos by Santa Sabina.,
By Sergio "Monrock" (Puebla, Mex) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Simbolos (Audio CD)

While the music of Santa Sabina is a hypnotic blend of goth, rock, jazz, etc. what really makes the group stand out from the legions of rock en español acts is its vocalist Rita Guerrero. Rita has just one of the most enchanting voices I have ever heard. Tracks like "Miedo" "Nos Queremos Morir" "Insomnio", etc. showcase her to a "t." This whole album is just amazing. By far their best work (right up there with their debut)

If you are familiar with Mexican rock, this needs no introduction. If not, start here. This is the very best of the best. Includes wonderful musicianship: huge, funky bass lines, intricate top-kit drumming, jazz-influenced piano, heavy guitar minus cliches, and a breathtaking vocalist (I'm talking about her singing). Adrian Belew provides superb, clear production and even appears on two tracks. Highly recommended for rock fans, especially open-minded progressive rockers. Prepare to be blown away by this wonderful, unique music.

A taste of dark, ehtilic, sexy, and invisible Mexico City,

This is a great oportunity for people willing to know real mexican "for young music" and what it is to be a rock lover in Mexico. You will hear notes of silence, alcohol, dreams, sex and life in the nightly urban environment of Mexico City. I heard Santa Sabina first in 1988 or 1989 when they were not famous in a bar called "Rock Stock" in Mexico City. They will always be in my existence. I love Rita Guerrero, the singer, and the fat Bass Player is really a talented musician. Please do also look for their first album either CD or whatever, and look for the tunes: "No me alcanza el Tiempo", "Chicles" and so on. It is great.

Santa Sabina is one the best bands to come from the latin rock revolution. Superb vocals and music. Dark, melodic lyrics and beats. I recommend all of their artistic works.
