Product Description

Similac Expert Care Alimentum Hypoallergenic Infant Formula, Powder, With Iron

For Protein Sensitivity

Designed for use from birth through the first year, Similac Expert Care Alimentum is for babies who experience food allergies and colic symptoms due to protein sensitivity.

Starts Reducing Colic Symptoms Due to Protein Sensitivity

Similac Expert Care Alimentum starts reducing colic symptoms, due to protein sensitivity, in most infants in just 24 hours. * This formula is easy for sensitive tummies to digest, and its protein is broken down into tiny pieces to virtually eliminate allergic reactions in most babies who are allergic to cow's milk protein.

Signs of Protein Sensitivity

All babies cry, but some babies have long crying spells and cannot be easily comforted. This excessive crying or fussiness is sometimes called colic, and might be due to protein sensitivity. Other symptoms such as severe diarrhea, rashes, and even sleeping problems also can be caused by protein sensitivity.

Quality Infant Formula

Similac has provided over 85 years of innovation and leadership to develop an infant formula product option for every baby. Similac is the #1 infant formula brand chose by moms† and the #1 brand fed in hospitals. (†Nielsen Data, total US infant formula share leader, all outlets as of 31 Dec 2013)

It's very expensive at the store so it's nice when I can buy it online and save some money.

Insurance companies may cover the cost of hypoallergenic formula if it is deemed medically necessary, either by reimbursing you what you've spent on it, or if you get it as a prescription through your pediatrician. Many doctors don't know this, so they don't know to give a prescription for the formula. Call your insurance company today!

Hypoallergenic formula was necessary for our daughter's acid reflux. For my insurance to cover it, my doctor had to provide 1) a signed letter stating the condition it's needed for, 2) a copy of the diagnosis in the baby's chart, and 3) a copy of the prescription.

Yes, it smells bad.

No, it doesnt taste bad. I licked my hand when i spilled it once and it was not nearly as bad as you would think due to the smell.

Yes it is extremely expensive, but you know what? It WORKS!

When you are up nightly due to a screaming unhappy child, or worse, when you see your child suffering with an allergic reaction or blood in their stool or other awful side effects of a milk allergy or intolerance you are willing to pay any amount of money to make sure your baby is happy and to in turn get some sleep as well.

This stuff works, and it is much cheaper then the next option of of Neocate or other amino acid based formulas.

Even if your child doesnt have a diagnosed milk allergy, but is extra gassy, colicky, or constipated, give this a try.

We started using this because my DD would get severe consitipation on ANY milk based formula. Even now at 10 months, when we tried again with regular formula we have the same problem, so back to alimentum we went.

I really do not care about the price or the smell because the alternative is either having a malnourished child or one that is in pain, both alternatives are much more expensive to me.

Before the breastfeeding Natzis get on my case- i know breast is an alternative BUT- not everyone chooses to breastfeed and not all babies do well on breastmilk.

GREAT Product: This is an amazing formula for babies with MSPI (milk or soy protein intolerance). I prefer it to Nutramigen, which has a lot more soy, smells worse, and does nto come in RFT (ready to feed) options. Another great option from Similac. My baby was diagnosed with colic from the beginning but I knew it was more than that. She did much better when I stopped consuming dairy while breastfeeding and now that she is older she is on this formula along with a dairy-free diet and most of her GI problems are gone.

BAD Seller: While this seller offers a nice discount when purchasing 6 cans (each can sells for almost $30 at most other stores and online) you will be getting OLD formula in dented cans. One of the cans of formula was 1 month away from expiring! Good thing I checked and used that one first. The other cans were all over the map with expiration dates. When I buy this formula elsewhere I get an expiration date that is about 3 years away! Makes me wonder how long these old cans have been sitting around and where the seller got them from. And as for sending them in a large, and slightly padded envelope, I hardly consider that proper packaging. Any other online store sends them to me in at least a box with padding.

Bottom Line: Try this formula if your baby has been diagnosed with colic or you think he/she is too gassy or has GI problems. But don't purchase from this seller. The small discount is not worth it!

My daughter has been battling with different types of formulas since birth. I breastfed her for a month, my milk wasn't keeping up with her demand. So I decided to supplement with formula, the first was enfamil and she had really painful gas and was crying non-stop. Then I decided to try Enfamil Gentlease and she wouldn't even drink it. So I tried Similac Sensitive and she was doing o.k. on it she maybe handled it for about 2 months until she completely refused to take a bottle. Then I decided to try Gerber protect, gentle and soy...she wouldn't drink Gerber protect at all. Gerber gentle she would drink maybe 2 bottles then cry when i tried to give her anymore. Gerber Soy she could handle but, it made her extremely constipated and the ped. gave me a laxative to give her and it did not help.( I also did not like the fact that she had to take a laxative)! Well anyways i switched backto similac sensitive and she was fine other than her bowels still not normal due to the soy! Then she went back to crying and refusing her bottle...meanwhile through this process I have been contacting her pediatrician about this issue and got nothing back... I then spoke to the dietician at the WIC office and they have non-contract formulas you can get through a perscription from your pediatrician. So, I contacted my pediatrician and asked if she can write a perscription for Similac Alimentum, and her assistant called back and said that the pediatrician will not give you a perscription for similac because WIC doesn't cover it and your daughter is healthy! So I decided to contact the WIC office and let them know what I was told. Then I called back and asked again for perscription and let them know that my daughter was drinking only 6 oz in a day and she has been crying and in pain.Read more ›
