If you thought Ed Wood was a genius you'll LOVE this,
By Andrew Myers (Queens, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Any Similarity to Persons Living or Dead Is Purely Coincidental (Hardcover)
Okay, imagin a series of cartoon strips, drawn with exacting detail and attention to likneses, that takes on the overblown egos of yesteryears second rate celebrities. Satires in the book include Tor Johnson, Frank Sinatra Jr., Joe Franklin, William Bendix, Jackie Coogan, Shemp Howard, Ed Platt, Ed Wood, and Lou Costello Jr. (assuming he hadn't drowned in that pool at the age of 1) and many others. Robert Crumb called Drew Friedman "the Crumb of the '80s". I've read it a thousand times and still find new things to laugh at.

Ever wonder why you never saw any African-Americans in Mayberry...?,

This collection of 70's and 80's cartoons by Drew Freidman and his brother Josh answer that question(albiet in a very very dark satirical way) and many more. Like what did Fred Mertz do after hours, what ever happened to the Our Gang crew, what became of some of the great film comics in later years.Did Rock Hudson secretly marry....? Get this book and find out. Dark disturbing and uproariously funny and certainly not for all tastes but worth every penny!(A good companion book is Warts And All by the same authors. It's good but not as good as this one.)
