1.0 out of 5 stars Medicine anyone?, January 26, 2009
Howling in pain from an earache, I somehow made it to the pharmacy to find a modern remedy for my agony. Upon arrival, however, I discovered that real ear drops are not sold over the counter. Instead, I found Similasan a Homeopathic "remedy." Let's break down the ingrediants Chamomilla, better known as chamomile. Mercurius Solubilis, a solution of mercury. Finally we have Sulfur, a known and useful agent in the treatment of certain skin conditions, but to my knowledge not a known agent of pain relief. As if all of this were not enough, these agents are then micro-diluted. Which means that no active ingredient may be present in a relevant dose. The end goal of a homeopathic remedy is to be nearly pure water which has absorbed some of the "properties" of the elements dissolved in it.
This remedy then not only fails the logic test as none of the ingredients seem to be useful in the treatment of the afflictions, but finally those ineffective ingredients are diluted to the point where their efficacy must be zero. This is simply put not medicine and should be avoided. I give this product one star because it doesn't seem possible to give it zero stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars works okay, April 11, 2007

I actually had an earache from sinus trouble + spotted this product @ CVS. While I realize it is listed for children, an earache is an earache. And I was unable to locate a smilar product for adults. Several times before I had tried to remember what it was my mother and grandmother used to use to make my earaches stop when I was a child. All I can remember is that they used to have a small brown bottle and they would put it upright in a small saucepan with water to warm it up. Then they would put drops in my ear and seal it off with some cotton. This "new millenium" product by Similason worked well, but I felt it would give more relief if it was warmed. Which I didn't try. When I read the main ingredient was glycerin, I realized that was what it must have been in the little brown bottle of my childhood. Also this Similasan product was waaaaaaay to expensive, but I was feeling bad at the time and didn't care. Next time I'll go to the healthfood store and get a small bottle of glycerine and try that. This company makes many wonderful products that I do purchase, but this one is priced so ridiculously high that I won't buy it again. Earache Relief Kidz Size Single Use Droppers .015oz / 5 each Similasan
