I've had the worst luck with these yard hydrants and I wish they were never made because mine always break and you have to replace them. This kit will fix your issues maybe??? The reason I say maybe is because it says that you don't have to pull the hydrant out of the ground to fix it but that is not true. Depending on your problem, you might still have to dig it up to fix it. The plunger on ours broke at the end of the rod and was stuck in the valve at the bottom of the rod and the only way to get it out was to dig it up and take it apart. The instructions say that you can just pull the rod up and the plunger will come out but that doesn't always work if you have a problem like I had. We always have ours in concrete too so the cows don't move them rubbing up against them so it makes it harder also to fix.

Also, I bought this kit before knowing that you could just buy the plunger for around $10-11 with shipping included, part number 8842, will save you some money but you only get the plunger. If that is all you need then get that, but if you need more, this kit is for you. The only thing I wish this kit came with was a new brass rod that the lock nut screws to since ours is all boogered up from adjusting it so many times when trying to get the hydrant to work before figuring out that the plunger was the problem!

Needs better instructions for extraction of rod to access the plunger seal. Had to call manufacturer. Use the handel to pull up rod, loosen set bolt, push down handle, retighten set bolt, raise handle, etc....

Repaired my farm hydrants with these kits, everything fits perfectly. Be sure that you remove the entire old rubber end, as the new one will not fit unless this is done.

The only difference between the 850SB and the 850 kit is that the 850SB is lead free. Both contain the same 8 piece types and fit the deluxe model hydrant. There might be lead in the plunger piece of the 850, but that's the only part that might contain lead, and the 850SB is cheaper.

I ordered parts for my Simmons hydrant, which I have had for many years, they were exactly what I needed to repair the hydrant. I never thought I'd be able to even find parts, but I did and they sent them right out so I recieved them in just a few days. Thank you for the great service.

I have been using Simmons hydrants for 30 years. I have owned 5 of them. Three I had outside at one farm to
fill water pails & water troughs in pastures with run-in barns. (I had the hydrants installed outside the fence so the horses couldn't play with them or get hurt running into them.....then attached a short hose. A plumber figured out a way to attach the pipes so I could get hot water from hot water heaters in other barns. Turning round knobs on the wall in a heated tack room in a main barn, I could mix the hot & cold water so the horses got warm water to drink in winter out of one hydrant in each pasture run-in barn. ) Only one of the 3 hydrants ever leaked and needed replacement parts once in about 15 years. Now, at another farm, I installed Simmons hydrants 10 years ago. I have 2 that are inside my horse barn at a regular utility sink. Two water lines from my house. One for hot. One for cold. They have leaked 3 times in 10 years. Hot leaks first, then the cold follows soon after. These are used a lot daily .... Filling 6 water buckets 3 or 4 times a day. Washing them daily. Plus I wash other things ....feed buckets , my car, the pressure washer for cleaning outside buildings, watering newly seeded pasture with lawn sprinkler. I have used these parts kits 3 times. The parts wear out from being turned on and off alot. I used them like faucets. I had the new parts put on by people who had never done it before. I worry about that one part mentioned in the directions that can drop off easily if you are not careful. When that happens , you have to dig up the whole element. Expensive I'm sure, if paying for the work. That has not happened to me. Perhaps because I lecture the workmen previously and/or ring up Simmons and have them lecture the workers. ...which they do happly. You will probably never use all the parts in the kit. You
can buy the parts a la carte. However, it costs the same so you might as well just buy the whole kit & store the
extra parts for the same money. And you may decide to replace a part that isn't worn out completely since you have the parts on hand. These parts kits work well. I have called Simmons to check about installation of the parts. They were always very happy to help.

Everything you need is in the box, except a tool to remove the old plunger from the bottom of the hydrant. For that, you'll need a long, stiff wire with a hook on it and probably a healthy dose of patience. If you're feeling lucky, you can try turning the water on to force the old plunger out - just be sure to completely remove the old plunger one way or another. Then just follow the instructions enclosed in the kit and your yard hydrant will be "good as new".

I was worried that I didn't take note of the model number when I ordered. Simmons might consider embossing the model on the hydrant head with their name. But these parts fit my pump and were easy to change out. A few replacement pointers included with the packaging would be nice. I didn't need them this time. I was lucky.

The parts package was delivered ahead of schedule. Always a plus.

Pulled my old hydrant completely out to replace the old parts even though the companies that make these things say you don't have to (I had to). The replacement parts were an exact match and they send plenty of pieces so you could replace other parts while you are fixing it if you'd like. I only replaced the leaking seals. Hydrant no longer leaks. Happy with purchase.
