5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
When I first heard "I Don't Mind" from Horror Wrestling some 18 months ago, I knew this band was worth keeping an eye on. Freaks of Nature is even more mature and full than Horror Wrestling (which I liked very much).

Not sure what's on this single, but here's a few comments about the group in general. After hearing the recent "Freaks of Nature" CD, I would have been the first to condemn these girls to the Victoria's Secret catalog they came from. But "Horror Wrestling" fares much better. No comparison. It has it all: tempo changes, shading, and solo musicianship...

I like their darkness, and their passion. The guitar work shreds, and the almost dissonant vocal harmonies add a marvelous tension. They seem to be adding some more depth, tonally, to their music. I think this band is going to be influential.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much more than anticipated!, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
At first glance you might dismiss a group of gorgeous women playing hard music as a gimic. That would be a mistake as this band has perfected a great style of mid-tempo, melodic, hard rock. The live presentation of the songs is a great show. The band is very tight with great vocals. The singer has a definite presence with an astounding charisma. OK, I'm biased. She pointed at me and dedicated a song to me, but it was still a great show. Put it this way, they won over a Ministry crowd and that is no small feat! See the show, buy the albums. This is one refreshing situation where the looks of the women is icing on a well baked cake.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a great band, September 27, 1999
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
I just saw them live last night and they won over every person in the crowd. Awesome performance from all four...bass player performed like a lead guitarist. Vocals were excellent and filled with electricity.

If you like STP, Black Sabbath, Manson, or Creed...they'll end up being played on your stereo.

They headbang so well you (almost) forget they are four fantastic-looking chicks. Album is awesome. The second track, ALIVE, should have made them. There are at least 4 hit songs on this album...although it wouldn't hurt to hear an upbeat song played with the same intensity...not all love ends badly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drain STH: Ripping Away The Flesh, May 21, 2000
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
Drain STH is by far one of the greatest bands to enter into the "Heavy Metal" Genra...They literally as they state in The Bubble Song "Slowly Rip The Skin" away from the idea that all Heavy Metal is strictly a Male section where only they can survive. These lovely females have proven they can survive for several years now in teh heavy metal era by touring in Ozfest and not to mention even having two CD's before the Recent "Freaks of Nature" Album. Rating this CD is hardly possible to give negative feedback to...I say it is well worth any amount of money you spend on it...within reason. (Definately worth puchase from this Site)

5.0 out of 5 stars The dude from Kentucky is a dumb f..k!, April 20, 2000
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
Drain STH is one of the best bands I've heard in my lifetime. They're about as close to being the perfect hard rock band as you can get as far as my tastes go. They're heavy, yet the vocals are so melodic and clear. The drumming is about as solid as you can get, and Martina(the drummer) is singing most of the time she's playing! Trust me, drumming and singing at the same time isn't easy. If you like Drain, then you must have some good taste in rock. If not, then, POWWWW!, GET ON THESE NUTZ!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME ROCK!, March 21, 2000
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
Finally, women who have not given up to POP! They know how to rock and rock hard! My favorite bands are Oz, Type O Negative, Coal Chamber, Paradise Lost and they tour with at least Oz. Heck - they were in the Ozzzzzzzz Fest! I like Freaks better than Horror Wrestling, but that's just me. They're not about the sex thing, so give them a chance - listen to them! Don't criticize just because they're women. Keep an open mind... and ROCK!

After hearing the recent "Freaks of Nature" CD, I would have been the first to condemn these girls to the Victoria's Secret catalog they came from. But "Horror Wrestling" fares much better. No comparison. It has it all: tempo changes, shading, and solo musicianship a la Sabbath; apocolyptic, two-voice singing reminiscent of AIC, all sung in cool Stockholm accent; the ubiqitous dark acoustic number ("Serve The Shame"); punishing guitar fuzz, firmly entrenching it in the Metal genre. We can only hope Drain will someday recapture the creativity and mood which inspired that fine work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear god, how can you NOT like Drain STH?, April 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
In a word, Drain STH is just perfect. However, I recommend buying their Freaks of Nature albu-(oops, I almost said the "A" word..)CD. I now give you the Enter My Mind - An excellent opening song. I like the way this track begins, and transforms from trance(kinda) to metal. (4/5)

2. Alive - Although nothing's too original in this song, what can I say, I still liked it.

3. Simon Says - YES! Arguably, the best track on this CD. The blend of DSTH's metal and Herbie Crichlow's rap is utter perfection. (8/5)

4. I Wish... - This and Right Through You are the sweetest, most heartfelt tracks on the album. The acoustic guitar (which isn't actually played by DSTH) is nothing short of touching, as with the rest of the song. (5/5)

5. Black - The way this song switches from one style of music to another very different, which DSTH have perfected, is very cool. Despite somewhat shallow lyrics (chorus - "...Black is black, 4x")this track still lives up to DSTH potential. (4/5)

6. Crave - Although this track isn't as deep as the others on this album, this is kind of what makes it kick. Quite awesome. (4/5)

7. The Bubble Song - Not a bad song, just not the kind that would turn you on to a band. Definately not single-worthy. (3/5)

8. Right Through You - DEVASTATINGLY powerful. The chorus almost brought me to tears, and I listen to SlipKnot and Marilyn Manson. Godlike, enough said. (5/5)

9. Leech - A couple cool parts in this song, overall a decent track. Again, this track sports the "transition" effect that DSTH have so perfectly coined.

10. Get Inside - This is an extremely underrated track. From the beginning drum kick to the end riffs, this track is the kind of song that makes you get up and bang your head like you have tourette's syndrome. (No offense, or anything like that.) (5/5)

11. I Will Follow - A good closing song. mind. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Freaks Of Nature!, April 28, 2000
By
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
Drain S.T.H. is one of the best heavy-metal bands out there. They always will be my personal favorite all-female band. Maria Sjoholm has an incredible voice, and the girls can actually play their instruments, very well might I add. Simon Says is a very good song off of their newest album, 'Freaks Of Nature'. If you are a new Drain S.T.H. fan, I recommend getting 'Freaks Of Nature' first, then trying out their debut 'Horror Wrestling.' 'HW' is almost completely metal, and on the re-release they have a cover of the Motorhead song "Ace Of Spades." And please, don't compare them with Kittie. Kittie ARE NOT metal in any way, shape or form. They are rock. And like I said above, Drain can play their instruments well. Unlike .. well you know. Hope you found this review to be helpful.

2.0 out of 5 stars This album is disappointing, try Kittie instead., April 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Simon Says (Audio CD)
I got this CD expecting awesome, cutting edge female metal, but what I got was disappointing. This CD sounded like worn out, big hair 80s music and was a bore to listen to. The only good songs were 'Enter My Mind' and 'Simon Says'. I ended up selling it in a week. If you want great female metal try Kittie, cause you are not getting it here.
