Geroge T Simon lived, and breathed the Big Bands. He wrote multiple books on the topic and his tome "The Big Band Era" published in 1968 remains a wonderful, readable book revealing the people and the Bands who made the Era what it was. He knew a lot of the inside stories of the people who made up the bands and could tell amazing stories and anecdotes about so many people. For a time, he even played trombone with Glenn Miller. So when he writes about Big Bands he does it seemlessly and brings it to life in a unique fashion. Simon Says is a compilation of his writings, musings, and discussions about the Big Band era that he wrote for Metronome magazine, of which he was the editor from approx 1939-1955. Nobody brings it to life like he does, find it, read it and immerse yourself in a world of people long gone but whose contributions to music resonate on. May we all leave such fine legacies as this!
