From the Publisher

Useful as a supplement to the handbook or as a primary text for basic writing courses, the S & S Workbook for Writers offers instruction and exercises on topics from punctuation to planning an essay. 5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Writers Handbook of All ! !, November 12, 2005
By

I have found this to be the BEST writers' handbook of all the ones I've studied. I am a private tutor in Mountain View, California and I use it for my high school & college students.

It contains several great sections on how to develop ideas for writing essays, the best I've found anywhere. Plenty of examples for multiple disciplines: Social studies, Literature, Art, Business, and research papers. Well organized - each chapter contains references to other related sections.

Other texts I've reviewed (in order of preference): Simon & Schuster Handbook for Writers 5th, 6th, & 7th editions (Troyka); 2) The Scribner Handbook for Writers (DiYanni); 3) The Random House Handbook (Crews); 4) The Holt Handbook; 5) Harcourt & Harbrace; 6) Prentice Hall

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reference Tool, October 23, 1998
By A Customer
I am a community college English instructor. I have used this handbook in my classes from the 3rd edition to the new 5th edition. I find that it is an extremely useful, well organized, and useful guide for students in all levels of composition courses (pre-college through college sophmore level) and for students writing reports or research papers in other disciplines as well. I highly recommend the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference book, August 16, 1999
By
An excellent reference book for writers, those studying for an English CLEP, or to help all grade levels with English assignments. This book contains information on essay, business and research writing. And it helps you to understand the mechanics of grammar, sentence & paragraph structure, punctuation, etc..
