I have been a semi-professional gardener for 25 years and this is one of the best plant and flower guides you can buy. This book has all the features a beginner or accomplished gardener can ask for -- concise information, a photo of every listed plant, compact size, well organized, very reasonable price, and a large, varied selection. I own many gardening books but this is the first I turn to when I'm looking for plant information.

An enormous variety of plants and flowers to learn about. Beautiful photos and helpful information of the orginality. A wonderful start to earning a green thumb!

Each of the 500+ entries in this comprehensive guidebook includes symbols indicating sun, shelter, and water requirements of the plant, flowering period, and zone(s) of hardiness. The plants are organized by categories such as indoor flowering plants, rock garden plants, climbers, medicinal plants, water plants, and so on. There is a section on roses, one on lilies, and one on orchids. Each entry includes family, origin, brief description, flowering time, use, propagation , environment, soil type, and soil moisture. Glossary, index. For additional photos of many of these plants, see Ornamental Plants & Flowers of Tropical Mexico.

I bought this book a long time ago and used it to identify plants for annual flower shows when I was in a garden club. It's very easy to search through the book and get a brief description of the plant. Each plant is pictured in full color. I just wish there were more plants included. I just purchased another copy of this book as a gift to a friend. She loves it.

This is the only source book I keep in my gardening wagon - it cuts to the chase and gives the basic information needed.

I love having this on hand to go back to, plus I enjoy reading it! Very good book for people who love plants and flowers!
