Young Simone Weil amazes some and shocks others as she plunges into the world, offending authorities. Leading a stoneworkers' strike, she is arrested. Seeking justice, Simone toils alongside fishermen, factory workers, and refugees, giving away her ration stamps. She volunteers for the Spanish Civil War and is disillusioned with war's cruelties. Hunted by the Nazis, she confides to Father Perrin how Christ came to her, possessing her soul. Labeled a Toadstool on the Manure Pile, Simone breaks herself for the dispossessed and is transformed into The Saint for Outsiders. (Based upon the life of the French mystic, Simone Weil, 1909-1943).

About the Author
Award winning author, James D. Yoder, was born in Kansas City, Missouri. His stories reflect his Midwestern roots. A graduate of Goshen College, Goshen Biblical Seminary, CMSU, and holding a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, KC, his career included teaching, clergy, and university psychologist. Lucy of the Trail of Tears is Yoder's fifth novel. His Echoes Along the Sweetbrier was a Semi-Finalist in the 2005 Independent Book Publisher's Contest. His books have won regional and state Best Book awards. Jim lives with his wife, Lonabelle, in Hesston, Kansas.

A fine introduction to a remarkable woman,

Yoder's Simone: A Saint for Outsiders is a fine, very readable introduction to the life of the French mystic, Simone Weil. His novel presents her as the remarkable, captivating and often controversial figure that she was during the first half of the 20th century. Throughout the book one senses the deep appreciation the author holds for Simone. Yet his portrayal is even-handed as he helps the reader discover her stubbornness and impatience as well as her courage and great love for the common folk of her day. For some, reading this book may be the first step in digging deeper into the life and thought of this saint for outsiders.
