Great Puzzle Book,
By
This review is from: The Simple Book of Not-So-Simple Puzzles (Paperback)
These puzzles are highly original, and quite different from what you find in most puzzle books. I was impressed with the large variety of challenges presented. Why do word puzzles all day when you can cross train your brain with spatial, math, visual, and logical problems? This book has them all. The illustrations that accompany each puzzle are also very nice. Get your thinking caps on, though-these highly enjoyable puzzles are "Not-So-Simple"!

The puzzling equivalent of a "Fudgehammer", look so simple hit so hard,
By Charles Ashbacher (Marion, Iowa United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER)

The title is the perfect description for the brain-cramping contents of this book. These puzzles are the intellectual equivalent of the beautiful flowers in the movie, "The Wizard of Oz." They look so sweet and innocent, yet they can have serious affects on your mental state. Solutions to all of the puzzles are included. As I read through them I solved approximately 10% immediately, another 10% after some serious thought and had no idea and would never have had the right idea on many of the others.
Which is the beauty and charm of the best puzzles; they look easy yet are not. Then, when you give up and read the solution, your first reaction is to slap yourself on the forehead. This is one of the more pleasant ways to generate a headache.

This review is from: The Simple Book of Not-So-Simple Puzzles (Paperback)
Unlike many puzzle books out there, this one contains all original and never-before-seen puzzles only. A treat the most avid puzzle fans may expect from any book by the Grabarchuk family of puzzle designers.
108 entertaining puzzles with detailed solutions from a diverse range of disciplines: Visual problems, mind benders, coin/matchstick puzzles and word challenges. A significant number of puzzles also include unexpected tricks to be discovered. Simply innovative, and not-so-simple indeed.

I expected to learn how to solve riddles. This book does offer a lot of riddles. What makes it unique though is it's wide range of different type of mind bending puzzles. It is quite the challenge and worth the buy.

Size of the figures,
This review is from: The Simple Book of Not-So-Simple Puzzles (Paperback)
My only concern is about the size of the figures. Most of them are really small. Why?! This is annoying. If you liked this one, I recommend Modern Classic Puzzles (Mensa).

i purchased this book after i bought the sample. the sample merely descibed the puzzles, it did not give any sample puzzles. i thought the description of the puzzles in the book sample sounded cool so i bought it. i don't like it at all. its not interactive and you need more than just the book to do the puzzles. a total waste of good money.

So where's the sample?,

I downloaded the sample before buying. Maybe I'm just some oldster from the shareware software days, but I refuse to put money down sight-unseen. So I did not buy this.
The "sample" contains virtually nothing. An index, a preface, a basic introduction to categories of puzzles. That's it. No samples of puzzles at all. No idea what it's actually like. No way to tell if I would actually be interested in the contents. Sorry folks but I will not trust my money to an unknown product. |
