Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Preteen pret-a-porter goes haute couture in 60 Simple Clothing Crafts for Making Wearable Art by Nancy Jo King, the second title in the Get Crafty series. The volume offers fashion statements such as sequined flip flops and a ring-handled purse, to emulate the chic (and more expensive) Mombasa. Back matter includes information on where to purchase materials and illustrates sample stitches and design ideas. Ages 8-14.

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-7-This book aims to introduce youngsters to quick and easy crafts to add a little pizzazz to their wardrobes. Most of the projects involve items to embellish T-shirts, hats, shoes, socks, bandannas, etc. Each project includes a "stuff you need" list as well as instructions and a line drawing of the finished craft. Some of the supplies can be found around the house, but most will need to be purchased. A list of stores and mail-order companies including Web sites is appended. The ideas are fun, but not terribly original, and the book's design leaves a lot to be desired. The steps are described, but too often instructions are split between two pages, and words that may be unfamiliar to non-crafters are not defined. The black-and-white drawings do little to clarify the directions. Many projects include an "-or try this" section, with suggestions that range from the obvious ("glue some sequins on") to entirely new activities that need further instructions and illustrations such as adding paper decoupage to a painted bracelet. Overall, there are a few good ideas and suggestions here, but not enough to merit first purchase.
