Book Description

Tiera Baker isn't fitting in well to her new environment at school. Lairdgren is a place of new rules and unpleasant people, all judging her, as if they have a right to do that?
Luckily she has a friend, Regina, and a new chance to try and set things right. It won't be easy and if she can't learn to control the red hot rage inside of her, the whole thing will simply not end well.
On the eve of war no one has a lot of time for a slightly troubled schoolgirl, but life has to go on, like it or not.
Even as she gains more enemies than she ever thought possible.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This book is integral to a greater story, while also being a good starting point for anyone wanting to read about a very complete and well developed fantasy world.

When this work was being written the words flowed onto the screen, almost as if the story couldn't wait to be read. I hope that you enjoy it and that you also read (or re-read) the whole series, since there are a lot of clues as to what's going on in the greater work, all throughout the whole project.

Thank you for reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving Tiera! January 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book in the overall series! Tiera gives us all the attitude we wanted to see in the first six books. It was a hard read as the author is great at getting you protective of the characters and it gets rough when they are smacked around a bit. Tiera brings some serious attitude but she always tries to follow the rules and suggestions that she is taught or given. However she is not very tolerant of those that bend the rules for their own goals. When they do and it crosses her things get explosive real fast.

I am so impatient for the next book in the series because some serious things were left hanging...

First I have to start with, that english is not my first language so please pardon any gramatical issues or such.

As with all "Young Ancients" books to date I couldn't put it down and just had to read till I was finished - sleep is overrated anyway. ;)

Well as for the book per se - its s a rollercoaster really - sometimes I'm cheering for Tiera and other times its just a "what the heck are you thinking? kind of moment".

The Title "A Simple Darkness" is well choosen and fits that book - for her its simple her "do not insult me - i won't let that stand" Gray line mentality mixed up with her "not noble" upbringing, aka a lack of real knowledge of "the rules" and beeing a teen.

It starts out rather "mundane" with school problems - she is getting bullied some for beeing a Doretta and starts pulling an "Explosive" in the Commons for people loughing at her - ok there was that issue with her thinking that they tried to poison her, witch as it turned out to be was just someone spitting in her food after all.

It goes on like that some more with her struggling to keep her anger in check - even succeding mostly - till Count Morris that is.
That sets in motion something that might or might not undo Noram as it is now and ends with a if not really a cliffhanger but at least a suspension like "ohh s*** - what now?" moment/chapter.

I won't get into more detail here but to say - buy it, read it - its worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A Baker with a backbone! January 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Wow! This author is rapidly becoming my favorite authors. I love Timon but he, like Tor, is a pushover that keeps allowing others to dictate the rules. Tiera has her own definitions of right and wrong and won't allow enemies to get away with just a firm scolding even if her own brother tries to get in her way. She's the first of Bakers to grow a backbone! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A darker POV February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If this is you're first book in Young Ancients you should start at Builder and read the series in order, there is much you will miss and not understand if you start with this book.

The world of Young Ancients is very well built and fleshed out, Tiera enhances this by giving another POV, a darker one of course. I was captivated early on and read through in one sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back Down? February 18, 2013
By mark
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Tiera has a tendency to overreact. She has anger issues. But she tries her best to follow the rules and listen to advice. Some people think this makes her easy to manipulate but they are wrong. Tiera isn't stupid and she won't back down from anything if she thinks she's right. When the high and mighty try to use her in their schemes they have made a terrible mistake. Because Tiera isn't a pawn to be sacrificed, and she has no problem with kicking over the game board and slitting the player's throat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid series progression February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A Simple Darkness' greatest strength was in setting up the series for a potentially large game changing event. Freed from the naive point of view of Tor, the author has shown us a much darker view of Noram and it's people.

My only concern is that I don't agree with the author that this book is a good starting point for new people to the series. The first book of Timon's series is probably better for this, with Builder being the optimal choice.

I eagerly await the next book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars a simple darkness February 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is much darker than the other books in the Young Ancients series. Like all of the other books P.S Power writes I am not able to put them down until they are done and then I still reread them several times.

More About the Author

A long time ago, which is actually a little less than four years, I was involved in a special program in a different place. A very different place. I won't go into the details, because... Boring. The overview is simple enough so I'll just share that.

Using extreme mental conditioning I was to transfer into a different reality scheme, and the person there moved into my own.

It worked. Yay.

Now I'm stuck here, so, you understand, I need to do something.

The person I replaced was a wizard. Now I can do that, sure, who can't?

But your world only has about three of those officially, and people look at you funny when you try to tell them that's what you do for a living. How other me managed I don't know. Can you imagine explaining that to the checker in a grocery line? Talk about awkward.

So I decided to share some of my writing with you. I know you'll like it.

But just in case you're wondering, these really are my own work, I didn't just... copy them from the original author in some other reality and claim them as my own here. That would be unethical.

*Also: If you, or someone you know is from a different reality, say one where Al Gore won the presidential race... Could you get in touch with me? I kind of want to return home now.

Thank you for your patronage.

P.S. Power
