About the Author

Dorcas Adkins lives in Washington, D.C., with Pat Munoz and their two cats, Harrie and Sushi. They share a large garden boasting a pond and five fountains with innumerable tadpoles, dragonflies, and hummingbirds. With her partner, Steve Meyer, Dorcas can usually be found running Adams & Adkins, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia, making fountains and other garden ornaments for sale to catalogs, retail stores, and individuals.

More About the Author

In the years since writing Simple Fountains in 1999, I have explored many of my other interests along with that of moving water. I maintain a well-equipped shop for furniture-making and antique-repairing projects. Travel in Latin America is my favorite (I am making good progress with Spanish) and is often planned to maximize opportunities to kayak and bike. Environmental education and conservation, especially of waterways, is a central theme in my life. My current position of Education Program Manager for the Washington Area Bicyclist Association gives me lots of chances to work toward a major goal: more choice in the ways Washingtonians get to their destinations, with improved air quality, health, and well-being.

I continue to live in Washington, DC. and to experiment with moving water at every opportunity. Emails to Dorcas@waba.org are most welcome and will be promptly answered.

This book has very well explained projects of little and garden fontains with all the details and nice schemes. Also, it has where to find all the elements you need to make them. I bought two books by mistake, but I gave one to my father who fell in love with the book inmediately.
This book is for all of you that love gardening and doing more than growing plants.
Greetings from Spain.

Very good book to find some interesting techniques on building fountains. There are some in the book that are very beautiful and inspiring. The author can go very in depth in some areas on how to create the parts for the fountain, which is very helpful. I would suggest to someone who needs ideas for a fountain.

I expected this to be "simple fountains". There is some useful information, but a lot of complicated variations of fountains, not a single "simple fountain" in the bunch. If you are into building wood frames, creating a casting mold, mixing and pouring cement, drilling brackets and holes, and carrying very large and heavy objects to and fro, this is your book. If you are, however, looking for "simple fountains", this is not the book. Based on the deceptive title, misleading description, and questionable reviews, I'll be avoiding all of this author's fountain books.

This is a fantastic book!

It has step by step instructions guiding the reader through simple tabletop fountains to complex outdoor structures. It also lists sources for the materials mentioned - which is a huge help.

All one needs is a little bit of time, some tubing, and a drill, and "Simple Fountains" will explain how to turn it into something wonderful! Truly awesome!

I broke my table top fountain and went shopping for a new one. In the process I came upon this book and thought, "Hummm...cheaper and more fun when you DIY." Why not five stars? This book is excellent and worth 5 stars. For me personally, I would have liked more varieties of table top fountains. Picky, picky, picky :)

Great book for indoor or outdoor fountains. The author has described in the book how to do the tasks, what are materials are needed.
