More stories, fewer recipes, October 29, 2003
This review is from: Simple Joys of Friendship (Hardcover)
I'm a longtime Gooseberry Patch cookbook fan. So, when they announced they would be producing a series of 'new format' cookbooks, you can only imagine how pleased I was. Simple Joys is the second in this series. While I like the colorful pictures, the covers and the illustrations, I am probably the only one who doesn't care for the 'personal stories' on every other page.
Don't get me wrong,I'm sure the stories are quite touching for the individuals involved... But for me its just too much to have a personal story on EVERY other page. Besides, some of the stories are quite sad. These stories deal with friendships old and new...And...Well, I don't want to be depressed when I read a cookbook! Some of the stories are sad....Especially those where/friends have died.
While I like the recipes, and would love to see books produced with color illustrations, the personal stories are too mushy and maudlin for me. I prefer the 'old format' with an occasional story, anecdote and suggestion and more recipes!

My Cookbook, April 10, 2009
This review is from: Simple Joys of Friendship (Hardcover)
Since I am featured in this beloved cookbook, I felt overwhelmed to be able to purchase several at this great price and the shipment arrived in record time so that I could present it to a bride at her wedding shower. Thanks for making that happen!!
