I've been following Unspoken Tradition since they formed up and started playing backyard parties and restaurant gigs. The band has come a long way since then, and the success is well deserved.

First, these guys can flat-out play. Whether it's blistering solos in Mine Shaft Blues or clear clean melodies that that tug at your heartstrings from Time Marches On, they can do it all. They have a wealth of talented singers on the roster and can nail the three and four part harmonies that are the heart of traditional bluegrass vocals.

But what really sets these guys apart are their compositions. Some of the band's original pieces sound like they could have been written in the golden age of traditional Bluegrass, but mixed in the album are more modern songs, like the title track Simple Little Town, that sound like something you'd hear on your local Country station in the car, or the amazingly creative cover of Cake's "Stickshifts and Safetybelts".

So, basically this album has it all. Great pickin', great singing, some awesome traditional tunes and some incredibly creative modern bluegrass takes. I don't know anyone who's heard the album and *not* loved it.

It's been a while since I've owned a CD in which I love every song on the album and can sing every word to every song. Great job and big thanks to the members of Unspoken Tradition.

There is a remark attributed to Albert Einstein that follows "Things should be made as simple as possible. But no simpler." Unspoken Tradition and their album Simple Little Town speaks volumes about the traditional values and social norms in the traditions of bluegrass and the music of mountains were these value still hold true today.

The tonal palette and textures of sound transform me in time to my childhood days at my grandfather's barbershop. The lyrical content of the songs and the melodies trap themselves in your head. From a technique perspective, the album is mixed great, and you feel like each member of the band is gathered around one microphone in your living room.

Be not fooled, this album is more than lyrics and music, as it contains an emotional content that exceeds beyond labels and musical categories, for which we easily group things. There many good tracks on this album Simple Little Town, Carolina Rain, and their own upbeat version of Cake's Stickshifts and Safetybelts. My personal favorite is the track Bitter Haze, which the singer renders a portrait of the pain endured the when a relationship takes a turn.

Unspoken Tradition has a lot to say about bluegrass, and tradition of life that many may not know. To make it no simpler, this album is an experience that will take you back to a time when manmade lights did not fill the sky.
