Book Description

January 1997
"The Simple Mental Secrets Of Golf" describes an easy method for average golfers to improve results and enjoyment of the game by learning to apply a practical, non-psychological approach to the use of their mind. To get the most from our physical golfing ability, we must be able to apply our mind effectively. Regardless of skill level all golfers can benefit from skillful use of their mind as they play. The book helps a golfer understand how to apply simple mental elements of a pre-shot routine and a clearly focused mind as they prepare for and then make a swing or putting stroke.

About the Author

Stan Luker is a retired businessman who considers himself a typical recreational golfer who has always wanted to play his best. With occasional flashes of great shotmaking or putting Luker wondered why he couldn't play that way more consistently and keep his overactive mind under better control while playing. "The Simple Mental Secrets Of Golf" resulted from his learning to understand and use his golfing mind power to lower his handicap to a single digit and keep it there. Luker and his wife, Glenda, live in Corona del Mar, California and he can be found practicing what he preaches at the Santa Ana Country Club.

Pros and golf teachers agree that successful golf is at least 50% mental. Most average recreational players have little or no idea how to effectively use their mind as they play. However, the same mental skills that pros and top amateur players use to get the best performance from their game can be learned by anyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars More than average, May 18, 1999

According to the back cover of this book the author "is playing to a seven handicap from the back tees." There are many single handicap players on our local courses. Seven is not an outstanding handicap. But did any single handicap player in your neighborhood write a book? About their mental secrets? This is a book written like our local hero might write.

The author emphasizes the importance of visualization, preshot routine and preputt routine. I got some good clues from these articles.

I was impressed that he mentioned two kinds of natural hand positions. If we don't know these positions we have to spend a lot of time fixing our shots.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read. I went through it in a little over an hour., March 15, 1999

I enjoyed the short to the point chapters; much like the "Little Red Book" by Harvey Pennick. Good "meat and potatoes" approach to the key mental skills that must be understood and mastered to play one's best golf.
