A surprise from an old fave!,

After being disappointed with most "rock" albums this year (or the past three years, for that matter), most particularly the latest from Velvet Revolver and Audioslave, I decided to check out the latest from one of my old favorites, Trouble. I haven't gone back and listened to them for quite a few years (having most of their stuff on vinyl!) but I gotta say, this is one of the best hard albums of the year, and definitely one of the band's best. Even after ten years between albums, they not only haven't missed a step, but have rather come up with an album where there is something to grab onto in every song, whether it's a great, catchy riff, a solid slow doom progession, or a nice melodic, psychedelic ballad tune - all with some great vocals and killer lead work. If you like Sabbath-style rock, but without the overkill down-tuned stuff inherent in a lot of similar bands ("old style", as I prefer to call it!), then check out this excellent new album!

Right where they left off,
This review is from: Simple Mind Condition (Audio CD)
I agree with the last review - in the sense they started right where they left off. I have also been a Trouble fan for 20+ years. I think the production value is killer in Eric's vocal's...but I dont' hear the harmonizing that is legendary between Rick and Bruce. But still I am very pleased with the release. Any Trouble is good Trouble. My faves are: Going Home, After The Rain, Trouble Maker, If I Had A Reason and The Beginning of Sorrows (much kudo's to Oly for writing it). I also give kudo's to Ride the Sky. Everything else is mild to me.....but dont get me wrong - if you like TROUBLE - you will like the album

This is agreat release and long overdo. Unfortunatly it is still only aval. as an expensive import, but well worth the money! Ten out of 11 tracks o nthe CD are flawless. Classic 90s style Trouble music.

i have been a Trouble fan for over 20 years and they seem to never disappoint! A good portion of this record reminds me of their first 2 classics Psalm 9 and The Skull, while a couple sound like they could have come from the Manic Frustration/Plastic Green Head era. Stand outs on this release are Mindbender, Pictures of Life, Simple Mind Condition, Goin' Home, Seven, and a cool cover of Lucifer's Friend 'Ride the Sky.' Any fan of Trouble will not be disappointed!!!

The new Trouble CD, SIMPLE MIND CONDITION needs to be released in the U.S. at a non-import price. This is a mind blowing, excellent comeback CD and derserves more praise than it is getting. It is unfortunate that Eric Wagner is already not a member of the band anymore and was replaced by Kory Clark, who I actually can't stand. Thanks to Trouble for recording at least one more masterpiece.

Trouble - Simple Mind Condition,
This review is from: Simple Mind Condition (Audio CD)
The kings of doomy stoner rock are back!!!! I was a little afraid, that this new album from Chicago's Trouble, couldn't live up to my exceptations, but boy was I wrong:-). The style on this album, is a mix of the last 3 albums they made, Plastic Green Head, Manic Frustration, and the self-titled (and godly) Trouble. I have been a fan of Trouble since 1990, and they haven't (in my opinion) made a bad album yet, and I don't think they will.

This is a good CD for Trouble, but I felt they touched on some good ideals, but left me wanting. There was only one Barry Stern!! Dont get me wrong Jeff is a Great drummer too! I loved the keyboards on the last song. What ever happened to the Psalm 9,Run to the Light, Days? After waiting for months to get an Import,I like the new CD.The production, mastering, and mixing is very good. Its a good Album, but it could have been a great Album. Rock on Trouble!! God Bless!!

This album picks right up where they left off over 10 years ago. It's all there - if you were a Trouble fan before, this definitely won't disappoint you.

I'm a die hard fan w/ my fave albums being Psalm9 and the Skull.
That being said, Trouble has all but abandoned their doom roots in favor of the Beatles era 60's sound they have grown so fond of. My biggest problem is that two guitar riffs are plagarized from classic rock "classics" (now you're messin with a sonofabitch from Nazareth & Immigrant song from Zepplin). they are so blatant even a co-worker who is barely in to music commented on the rip-offs. Not much imagination in this one just alot of rehashed riffs and lyrics. I hoped for another doom metal classic but this is very mediocre. If it wasn't for the Sabbath-like guitar sound this would barely even be a metal release. BTW - Trouble hate that "white metal" tag so I don't know who would have submitted that as their band description. They have hardly been a "Christian" metal band since Run to the Light. This one is for die-hard hard fans only.

I bought this when it first came out in 2007 (not 2009 like the web page states) and listened to it constantly in my car for over a month... then let it sit in a pile of CD's for awhile (while getting acquainted with a new gf), before getting it back into the CD player, and rediscovering what an absolutely brilliant record this is! (yes, I'm kinda old that way, still call 'em 'records', haha)
No matter the song, hard, soft, heavy, mellow, folky, classic doomy metal, hippyish....the music seems to be perfectly done. Vocals, guitars, drums, everything is spot on.... I've always loved the guitar tones and textures and contrasts of Franklin/Wartell and the guys don't let me down here. They can play in tandem, play harmonies, swap between rythm and fills/leads, it's as flawless as ever, and better than most I've heard...right up there with Tipton/Downing IMHO... Anyway, good songs, great vocals, awesome riffs, and not a 'click thru' song on the CD... I can sit and drive, listen, and not get to a piece I don't wanna hear! I just finished listening to the old faves Black Sabbath Vol. 4 and Black Sabbath 1...and this follows nicely, doesn't seem out of place with the old Doom favorites... Also, it's nice to see that my all time favorite Trouble Album, 1990's 'Trouble' is now available here as an MP3 download, so no more looking for $50-60 CD's on EBAY!!! Highly recommended!!! |
