I signed up for Simple Mobile because they advertise a $40 unlimited talk, text, and "up to 3G" web plan. After I signed up and paid for one month, I learned that they throttle their data on that plan to 119 kbs. 3G data typically runs between 500 kb/s and 3 gb/s. 2G data, on the other hand, can go up to 150 kb/s. So, their "up to 3G data" is actually a 2G data plan!

When I called their corporate HQ, they admitted that they throttle data, but claimed that 119 kb/s is at the "low end of 3G." When I asked for a refund, they refused. I ultimately disputed the charges on my credit card and received a full refund.

My advice: Don't trust Simple Mobile.

Update: Since this review was first published, Simple Mobile was acquired by American Movil, which also operates Tracfone Wireless, Net10, and Straight Talk Wireless. They've since changed their policies very slightly. The $40 plan is now throttled to 230 kb/s.

DO NOT be suckered in by the advertised "unlimited data" $60 plan. If you exceed 2GB of usage, they throttle your data speed to a trickle and then cut you off completely. And when you call customer no-service to complain, they give you a Simple Mobile Corporate # in Irvine, CA to call, which is a voicemail that will never call you back. You are effectively stuck with the lower $40 plan even though you've paid $60 for the remainder of the month. After that, you are forever limited to the $40 plan and not allowed back on the $60 "unlimited data".

I had left several voicemail messages to the corporate meatheads to no avail. A total scam!

I ordered this sim card to start new service with Simple Mobile. After using Cricket, At&t, T Mobile, & H20, I was willing to try anything. I purchased a used T Mobile Motorola Cliq Android phone. I signed up with the $40 plan. I've been using this service for over six months now and I have no complaints at all. I get service in all of the areas that I couldn't before. The best thing is that I'm paying $40 a month to use my Android phone. Every app or service that I've ever tried will work using my phone's data, which is UNLIMITED!!! The one thing I have to say about Simple Mobile is that you must go on their website to see which phones support their service. Find a phone that works for you. After you purchase the phone (new or used), you must go back to the website to configure your data settings for Simple Mobile. It's fairly easy and a kid can do it, but you must do this if you want a positive experience with Simple Mobile. After I changed my data settings, I've been smooth sailing for over six months now. I've never had a problem with my phone calls, text messages, pic / video messages, or internet data. Simple Mobile is the way to go!

Tried to activate this SIM, and during activation, the Simple Mobile website said I had to call a customer service representative.

I called customer service, and they said that as of 2 days ago (March 10th, 2012), they changed their service and the only way you can activate a new plan is to purchase a SIM directly from Simple Mobile along with a plan. There is no way to make a bare SIM card work, even if you try to prepay for a plan with a credit card at the time of activation.

Don't purchase this SIM unless you already have a PIN, and even then I'm not sure you can activate it if the SIM was not purchased from Simple Mobile.

I think we all know the way the phone companies trying to advertise with the word "Unlimited". We all know it so well by now that I don't find it truthful in people complaining that it has a cap. That's irony to think of it.

But let's face the facts, we all know there are fineprints to all phone services. It used to be Sprint that has truly unlimited data plans. Now not so much anymore. I'm tired of all the terms in the contracts that once I found Simple Mobile I'm more than happy to have them. I do worry for the day that they are out of business more than the dreadful Apocalypse in a few days!!!

Here's the break down of why Simple Mobile ($40 Unlimited Plan):

Contract Sign-up: No

Subsidized Phones: No (bring your own unlocked phone)

Customer Service: Meh-OK (as I'd expect with any phone companies)

Unlimited Texts: Yes

Unlimited International Texts: Yes

Unlimited Voice Calls: Yes

Unlimited Data: Yes (250MB @4G speed, the rest is 2G/3G unlimited)

Connection/Setup Fee: No

Late Fee: No. Your line will disconnect after couple of reminder texts.

Reconnection Fee: No. Yeah, it'll work once you make payment again in a few minutes

Taxes/Surcharges/Govt Fee: No

Early Termination Fee: ???? Screw this

I was really enjoying Simple Mobile until my recent road trip. I was heading south on Hwy 77 when I lost signal for almost 100 miles. Just to inform everyone I was using my HTC One X unlocked phone. The phone has performed flawlessly for past 2 months. I searched for available networks and only At&t was available. Lord knows I can't stand At&t for a couple decades now. When I was able to contact customer service for Simple Mobile. The Simple minded agent said I should have contacted them when I was in the area with no signal. Really? I said how could I do that with NO signal. She said I don't know use somebody else phone. Really? What a joke. I'm glad I was near the end of monthly subscription. I abruptly changed to Straight Talk which shares Verizon's, Sprint & Att networks. Plus no roaming & it is $5 cheaper. I will update on my next journey down south. I will say it is very important nowadays to have signal anywhere in the USA. Even if you have to roam for a bit, but to have zero service in my book is a deal breaker in the Millennium. Simple Mobile is suppose to run on T-Mobile network which did not exist either.

I ordered this product the first time and didn't received it. The Package was lost in transit, so Amazon refund my money and had to order another one it reached on time. The sim card is very good and have no problem setting it up online to activated it. You cant beat Unlimited Web, Phone, and Messages for $60.
