I'm shopping for tatami and had to comment on the reviews so far. Folks, true tatami is light green. It ages into a tan color. And again, if it's real, it smells like new straw. This is exactly what you'd hope for if you were buying "real" tatami and not cheap floor mats. Sheesh!

Its a great mat for the price I have done extensive searches for natural rugs and this is the best price so far, and if you have a problem with the initial smell of the straw go get some lavender oil and mix it with water, spray it like febreeze & stop complaining you picky people! it is a good mat!

This is the real deal that others try to copy. It has a tight weave so when you put it on the ground nothing pokes through. I personally like the natural smell of straw. I have bought the cheaper brands and there is no comparison.
