I'm not sure if a book on accounting has ever hit the best seller list before, but Greg Crabtree's Simple Numbers, Straight Talk has completely changed the way I think and might be the book that makes the biggest impact on my life and business in 2012! I've had masters level accounting courses, visit my business book keeper and accountant monthly and keep detailed planned and actual budgeting spreadsheets. However, despite all that knowledge and effort, it wasn't until reading Crabtree's Simple Numbers, Straight talk that my eyes were opened and I was given the tools to effectively manage my expenses, salaries and revenues to run a profitable business. Simple Numbers is an easy read that can be consumed in one or two days and is a must read for every business owner and entrepreneaur! Thank you Greg for this contribution which will make a positive impact on so many lives and businesses around the world!

I've really enjoyed his book and have had to put it down several times to go and look at my numbers and make notes on how to change things in my business. I'm sure I will be coming back to read parts of it again as my business grows.

As anyone who has run a small business wil tell you, the only secret to success is managing cash and managing it well! But how do you get to good cash management? Greg Crabtree writes about these secrets in this short but very useful and informative book - Simple Numbers, Straight Talk, Big Profits!. Greg writes about the four secrets of making a small business financially successful - Calculating and paying yourself an Owners Salary without fail, how keeping pre-tax profits above 10% being the only way to be successful, making sure that the labor you hire is productive enough to justify their numbers, and managing the four core cash flow forces - Taxes, Debt, Core Capital and Distributions. Greg raises and discusses some very important points in this bok under the above topics (plus some more about reporting numbers, etc) but the core concepts are extremely essential. Many small businesses are run on blind trust and faith while the numbers are telling you a different story and you don't listen to them properly! Especially making sure that the numbers add up enough to justify paying yourself a decent salary and the people you hire are justified in their being there!

Sweat Equity is great if the payoff is certain in the future and large enough to justify all the sacrifices you make! Greg is not against it but once you take investment money from others, you will have to make sure that everybody's time and effort, including yours is rewarded appropriately! Taking too much money away from investments to pay yourself is not fair to your investors while not taking any is not fair to yourself!

The levers of taxes, debt, capital and distributions are critical to managing cash since you could run out of cash even if you are profitable on the books! Greg does a terrific job identifying and talking about numbers in a business. Passion is good and necessary but passion don't pay the bills, unfortunately!

Great book that every small business owner should read and have on their bookshelf!
