4.0 out of 5 stars Kemo Goes Solo, November 15, 2004
By
Che "Che" (Sacramento, CA.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Simple Plan (Audio CD)
In his first solo album Kemo proves that He can not only hold his own, but makes you wonder why he hadn't done it sooner. This album shows a promising future for this proud Black/Mexicano Chicano artist, who isn't afraid to promote himself as such. His unique sounds seem to come naturally, combining the best of both his Black and Chicano backgrounds. This album will most likely apeal to others as well, who will experience the cultures and sounds that only kemo can bring into the mix. Support Chicano Rap, make sure your purchase is NEW! 4.0 out of 5 stars MUCH better than what's on the radio today, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Simple Plan (Audio CD)
The only reason why this guy's not making millions like Jay Z or Yonug Jeezy is because he's actually good! This is a true westcoast cat who's got it all. This is an excellent solo debut and his albums will get only better and beter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated Solo by "Delinquent Habits" Frontman, April 16, 2010

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Simple Plan (Audio CD)
There are only a handful of artists that have really changed the Spanish rap game, and Kemo is one of them. I'm not talking reggaeton or Chicano rap (which I both like), but artists like Mellow Man Ace, the Mexakinz, Frost, Vico C.

Tres Delinquentes is probably the first mainstream single in the Urban Regional subgengre, and Kemo is one of the pioneers of Latin Hip Hop. He's also one of the most underrated Latin rap artists to ever pick up a mic, so I was happy to get a copy of Simple Plan. My favorite cut on the album, without a doubt, is La Receta. It's a throwback to Tres Delincuentes, with Kemo going hard over an Urban Regional beat in Spanglish.

Overall, Simple Plan is a much more personal album than Kemo's work on the Delinquent Habits records. Kemo produced all of the beats on this album save for "Silence is Dead", and there's lots of funk and Latin jazz fused into the production. Beats like "Quiero Volar" and "Note the Crowd" offer a fresh change to most of the uninspiring production being put out these days.

The album is 24 tracks deep, though five of them are interludes. This isn't a flawless Hip Hop CD, though it's easily one of the best Latin Rap albums ever released. If you're a fan of Delinquent Habits, or enjoy the Urban Regional sound of artists like Akwid and Crooked Stilo, this is a must-own album.
