More About the Author

I am a homebred Hoosier, known for our sense of humor, hospitality, humbleness...and always ready to give a helping hand. I quit high school to serve my country, but later in life earned my B.A. from Purdue in Psychology and my M.A.L.S. from Valparaiso University with a concentration in Theology.

If you really want to know me, all you need do is invest .99 cents and read SIMPLE SELLING on Kindle. It is my first commercial book which I wrote so my readers could find success. I liken it to the sunny side of life. My second book, DIRTY LITTLE TRICKS, exposes people's dark sides.

My debut novel, SCATTERED HARVEST, is a story set in rural Indiana in the early 1900's, with its main character destined for a place called Long Pointe -an asylum for the insane. It's truly about men and women at their best and worst.

My second novel, THE PASSERBY, was inspired when an angel whispered in my ear and I was able to solve a cold case murder - one in which the life of an 11-year-old girl was taken just two weeks before Christmas in 1986.

CRY UNCLE, my latest novel, is an award winning story as told by a soldier boy in the Civil War during the years of 1864/65.

As the saying goes: Life is Good. As such, I have been very fortunate, as well as very blessed as an entrepreneur, therefore I am able to contribute all my proceeds from my bestseller, THE PASSERBY, to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Chicago, as well as other charitable causes.

Crowel's title is somewhat misleading in that possessing and applying "common sense" cannot "guarantee success." Ignore the title and focus on the contents. There is nothing new in this book. However, it is well-organized, well-written, and does indeed focus on basics. My guess (only a guess) is that experienced sales managers and salespersons will find little (if anything) in this book they do not already know. However, reading and then re-reading it will have value to them because it is often helpful to be reminded of what one already knows. The material is organized within ten Sections, each of which ends with a Summary of key points. The book's greatest value will be for those now thinking about a career in sales or for those only recently embarked on that career. They are urged to re-read the book (or at least the Summaries) from time to time as they proceed.

"Simple Selling" is a very informative book, that contains valuable tips & goals for sales reps (but can be useful to any business professional).
When I first read "Simple Selling," I was starting my first sales job. Having little experience in the field, I found the book gave me a realistic insight into selling. Its principles are simple, yet they provide guidelines to help individuals better themselves in their profession.
Thanks for passing on your knowledge. I'm looking forward to reading your next book!

Selling is a skill, and is learned. The average salesperson never goes to a seminar, nor reads a book on selling. That's why the average are average. Thomas Ray Crowel's book is simple, but shares the basics of selling. Deep down we all know what it takes, but it takes someone who can make it easy to understand to clarify it. Tom's book does just that. I'm glad the book is in my library so that I can pick it up and review it often. If you're in sales, you have to keep improving and learning. Learning is the competitive edge. There's no money paid for coming in second.

I recently started my own home-based business. I was a little worried because I've never sold before and now I'm out there on my own. A friend recommended "Simple Selling" and I have to say to anyone who may be in a similar situation that this book is a MUST read. My business is doing extremely well and I believe in giving credit where credit is due. I look forward to a prosperous future with these simple and steadfast principles. Thank you, Thomas, for your wisdom and your ability to convey that wisdom in such an understandable and easy to apply format.

There is no question that there are many books available to help the sales professional and the novice, but not all of them are as easy to follow, consice, logical and filled with practical information as this one is. I enjoyed the information contained in the book very much and am pleased to have it in my business library to call upon when I need a refresher on an idea or two to help me in my business. I will definitely refer it to others and await the next book by Mr. Crowel.

If you have 20 years experience in sales, then this isn't the book for you. But if you're like me and you're somewhat new to sales, a bit intimidated by the idea of trying to turn a stranger into a customer, and looking for sales techniques that are both ethical and effective, then give this book a try. The straightforward techniques gave me the confidence to get started selling right away. This book is a handy and yes, simple, reference for each step in the sales process.
