I really enjoyed this book. I own a lot of spell books and what separates this from all the others is its simplicity. Dolnick tells you why you are doing the spell and exactly how and when to do it. The only thing I found missing was a further explanation as to why particular flowers or herbs were used and if we could substitute (i.e., some flowers are expensive and not always in season). There is little-to-no spiritual reference in this book so you do not have to be Wiccan or Pagan to appreciate it (Wiccans/Pagans may miss the witchy atmosphere as I did at first); Dolnick mainly relies on astrological information and herb/color lore - again, without much explanation (my opinion, the only failing of the book). If you like your spells with a little more flexibility, you may feel a bit constrained. I like that there are spells to work during the waxing and waning moons and that prosperity can be about letting go of fear as well as drawing opportunities. I am very glad that I purchased this book.

I was a bit skeptical about this at first, but my head is still reeling from the wonderful outcome of my first few attempts. Ms. Dolnick has really done a great job of combining mysticism and common sense for us beginner pagans! :)

I love this book. It's simple, it's easy to read, the spells are uncomplicated (and, in my opinion, the more powerful for it), and effective.

Spellwork is often shrouded in mystery, fraught with complication, made obscure. Dolnick gives us spells for real life, and they work! The theory is explained well and the spells are for things we all seek. Don't hesitate, go for it!

Thank you Ms. Dolnick for sharing these wonderful spells. I have used quite a few of them and every one has worked. They are simple and fun to do. And they work!

An excellent book about success and magic. Ms. Dolnick gives practical advice in a down-to-earth manner. Her magical teachings feel realistic and practical. She teaches both the practical earthly view and the magical spiritual view of achieving success. Buy the book.

Although I liked this book well enough, and I enjoyed the fact that the author also gave practical information for overcoming life's obstacles, the spells seemed a bit stale and she didn't really offer much for personalisation. The spells are all focused on business and helping your self-esteem, which can be very helpful in day-to-day life. Recommended.

I really can't understand how people could find ANYTHING useful in this book. All there is to spell working is a candle and flowers? Come on.

I urge you to look elsewhere. Money Magic by Patricia Telesco is good, Scott Cunningham is good, etc.

Looking over the threads of other people's reviews here, some have praise for the book and others do not. Some view it as actually helping them cast spells while others see it as pure entertainment and nothing more. Spells are not about how ceremonial or formal it has to be. Sometimes all one does need IS a candle and some flowers. Sometimes, if your focus and intent and discipline is strong enough, you don't need to use ANY kind of outward symbols in order to cast a spell.

I bought this book during my first couple of years practicing. This book has some spells that are very effective. Alas, they only work if you are focused on making them work. The key ingredient on a spell's effectiveness is YOU. For some people, they need the outward stuff of candles, salt, water, incense, etc. in order to fine tune their focus and keep them in a certain frame of mind for castwork.

I found it very interesting that she was a former business executive and decided to "come out of the broom closet" so to speak with this book. If a book doesn't work for you, it may simply be YOU and not the book. It's something that had to be said, and I'm glad to have put it out there.

Final bit of advice: Get all your information from several books and avenues of information, not just one book or a person's opinion.

"Simple Spells for Success" is an incredible book by an incredible author. Barrie Dolnick takes the reader through the constant cycle of success and failure and gives helpful spells through such times. She also gives meaningful advice on fallow periods, acceptance, and much more. This is really a great and interesting book.

I had to have this book after my best friend recommended it. Of course I looked all over the big bookstores before I found it. Wish I had found Amazon a few months ago. I would have saved time and money. This book has very simple spells to use to attract abundance, personal power and success to yourself. Get this book! I love it!
