I love this book! I've often thought, "What can I do to help turn around the damage that is being done to the beautiful rainforests?" 50 Simple Steps has empowered me. Small, easy adjustments. Or bigger leaps. I'm giving this book as gifts to my friends and family.

This book is great! It's not only informative, but an easy read. I love that I can now make a difference just by switching the coffee that I drink every morning to shade grown or sustainably harvested coffee (which all major coffee houses and stores sell). It made me realize that no matter how busy life gets we can still make small changes that have a big impact.

Kim Henderson is right: I do feel nervous every time I think about rain forest destruction, yet it's not a topic that my friends or the media often discuss. Henderson writes, "We must sift through the barrage of oftentimes useless information thrown at us everyday to focus on issues that merit our attention. Having some clear awareness of what is actually happening to the world's rain forests is the first step toward change. Staying tuned in to what's happening is like sowing seeds in your psyche that will begin to grow and inform your choices and decisions, especially when making purchases and casting your ballot."

Henderson presents the facts and her suggestions and resources in simple steps that are 4-6 pages each. Otherwise this topic might be overwhelming. She also includes a summary of scientific information about rain forests for the non-scientist. I haven't finished the book cover-to-cover yet, but I'm definitely thinking about the rain forests and how I impact them more often.

I picked up the book after seeing my favorite animal on the cover- the precious red-eyed tree frog. I know the magic of the Rainforest first hand after spending 3.5 weeks in the jungle in Belize back when I was 19 doing archaeology. I opened the book and quickly got the structure- easy, digestible ways to make a difference. This is what I can handle without feeling overwhelmed by the issue, the author has made a big goal approachable by small steps. From what chocolate to buy, what nuts to avoid, which labels matter and which might not. The preface opened my heart as Kim Henderson describes the moment she realized this book needed to be written. While visiting Costa Rica on a work trip she stood on her balcony and felt the feminin spirit around her, a pulsing of the earth's heart. I was gently awoken and inspired to be a part. The book sits on my night stand now. -- Easy read, good for elementary schools, could see it for youth environmental programs or something to keep in the kitchen or on the coffee table. Important information to use every day.
