I was looking for a story book about simple machines and this fit the bill, however it is NOT full of cute, colorful illustrations. The art is all black and white and not what I expected (it didn't have a "see inside" available when I ordered the book. I did like the story and the teaching guide that came with it. We will not be using this book in our program however, we went with HOW TO LIFT A LION instead.

I had this book before but I had misplaced it. I like being able to use it a resource when my class talks about simple machines. The children enjoy the story and it invokes conversation. I bought a new copy for myself as well as two more for my fellow teachers for a christmas present. I hope their class enjoys it as much as mine has!

My three boys really like science. This book is at just the right level for my first grader. My fourth grader already knew most of this information, but a review never hurts. I like that it took a traditional and recognizable fairy tale and incorporated simple machines. The illustrations are cute, however they could be more informative and educational. Because of the student activities and worksheets I feel that this is geared more towards teachers in a classroom setting. However, at home we just talked about the questions and answers in a less formal way. Overall, I think this is a fun introduction to simple machines for kids.

This story is hilarious and has lots of scientific terms and ideas to discuss. I got it for my daughters who are in 1st and 3rd grade and it was right on point I think even older classes could use this for great topics and discussion. However, I expected more illustrations of the concepts and the book looked like it was typed on a typewriter.

This workbook is a lesson plan based on a creative retelling of the Three Little Pigs. In this version, the wolf uses simple machines to try to capture the pigs but misuses them - and fails - in a fun and humorous way.
I'm always looking for hands-on ways to supplement what my daughter learns in school. She's an active learner, so the classroom environment doesn't always cater to her learning style. This workbook is written for teachers to be used in classrooms, but it's easy to adapt to home use as well. The story itself is depicted with black-and-white drawings (perfect for coloring later...). I especially loved the ideas for expanding on the story. I have no background in education but the extension activities are explained in a way I could understand, including how to set out stations for free-exploring of materials, what materials to use (all things you likely have or could get very inexpensively), and how to experiment with simple machines. I loved this book and hope to see more like this in the future!

This book is about the next genration worf. He has wants to be like his father and eat the three pigs. Unlike his father, he came up with new wasy to get to the pigs.

With science on his side, the little worlf tries hard to get the pigs, The pigs on the other hand, use science to protect themselves.

Overall, this book is amazing. I loved reading it to the kids and the kids loved listening to it being read. The only issue, I had was with the illustrations. I felt them to look like small coloring book boxes.

Aside from the illustrations, this book is a great read out loud for older kids. They will love doing the projects and seeing if the wolf succedded or not.

I recieved this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine and were in no way influenced by outside sources. For more great educational toy and book reviews, check out Little Lady Plays
