5.0 out of 5 stars Back to what Jim does best!
As a longtime fan of Jim Brickman, I had been frustrated lately by the lack of simple and beautiful instrumental songs that I loved him best for. This CD is just that, a wonderful collection of piano solos, at times with subtle accompaniment that adds a beautiful enhancement. Several songs will tug at your heartstrings with their haunting melodies. There are only a few...

3.0 out of 5 stars Deceiving Title
I have been a devoted fan of Jim Brickman's music and have used it to not only comfort me in very difficult personal times but also to comfort my son at bedtime since his birth three years ago. I was very hopeful that this CD titled "Simple Things" would be as the title says very melodic, soothing, simple acoustical piano music. A CD that I would place in my...

There are only a few vocal tracks at the end of this CD, of which the title song is a standout. In all, "Simple Things" earns a spot at the very top of my Jim Brickman collection with his return to what he does best.

5.0 out of 5 stars pleasant surpise, September 29, 2001
This review is from: Simple Things (Audio CD)
This is my first ever Jim Brickman CD. I fell in love with "Tuesday Morning" from the cuts on Amazon. I'm a piano player and I love this CD. It is smooth running, not like others that can be choppy. It creates a mood and keeps it throughtout the entire CD. His songs are not lengthy and to the point. It's nice, no 4 minutes embellishments here, just a nice melody with some simple improvisations. There are three vocals on here which are nice, they don't disrupt the flow. One is about simple things in life and the other is a tribute to mom's. The third has a nice "new Edition" sound if I may. It is a love song and so sweet. If you like a simple, smooth Cd with no fancy tricks and swirls, just nice soft, easy music, you will enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Truly is About Simple Things, September 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Simple Things (Audio CD)
This long awaited cd is truly a return to the "simple things" in life, which is what Jim Brickman's music is all about. Just simple solo piano music with a few extras added for effect. This cd is reminiscent of his very first cd entitled "No Words" He receives help from multi-talented electric violin player, Tracy Silverman and his wife, Thea Suits, on flute, on the hauntingly beautiful "Night Rain" Not to be overlooked are the wonderful rich vocals of Rebecca Lynn Howard, on the title track "Simple Things", Tom Douglas, and All-4-One. Brickman fans will truly appreciate a return to the "Simple Things"

5.0 out of 5 stars A great cd by a very talented pianist, December 16, 2002

While riding in the car with my family one nite someone called into a local radio station and requested that the DJ please play the song "Simple Things," it was from hearing that tune that I've become a fan of Jim Brickman and his great work.
I caution folks that hear that song, with vocals performed so well by Rebecca Lynn Howard, that while the rest of the CD is in line with that song, it's not a disc full of vocals and music you'd hear a lot of on most pop radio stations (nor is most of the rest of Ms. Howard's work, which is good, but really does stick to her country music roots).
Jim Brickman has many friends that have accompanied him in public appearances, including Jane Krakowski (formerly of Ally McBeal, Ally's secretary) and though not paired up with her on this album, it's obvious that Jim Brickman can work with talented vocalists when he chooses.
Jim Brickman is a great pianist and has composed some great music for this CD and his others. As noted in the editorial review, he certainly has the skills to write pop hits, as shown in the title track. As evidenced by the remainder of the CD, his preference is composing great piano works that are pleasant to listen and relax to.
I toss this CD into the DVD player at bed time and my wife and I both relax to the great melodies that fill the disc and calm our spirits as we try to fall asleep. Just to be clear, though, the music on this disc isn't boring, and doesn't 'put you to sleep' -- it simply works well as relaxing music that can be enjoyed just as much for quiet times as it can be for times that aren't so quiet.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS CD, September 1, 2004
This review is from: Simple Things (Audio CD)
I, BEYOND ANY DOUBT, LOVE THIS CD. Jim Brickman's gentle finesse takes me from my usually stressed out and chaotic day to a simpler world where I can unwind and imagine I am in a peaceful and serene paradise. I love to put this CD in when I get home from school, work, or whatever. No matter what, it will put me in a better mood and make me feel "soothed".

I have always been a fan of Jim Brickman, and all of his CDs are superb, but I truly loved "Simple Things". Jim Brickman is an amazing pianist and his unique touch will keep you thinking about his songs after you listen to them. As the title somewhat suggests ("Simple Things") this CD is "simple". Jim Brickman tends to play in the same key and in the same tone throughout a lot of his songs. I have heard that many people do not like this idea and think that Jim Brickman needs to reach beyond his norm to express his talent even further. However, I like the simplicity of his music. I especially like it because I know I can just play the CD and listen to the entire thing and stay in the same state of mind. I hate putting in a CD and having to get up and press the skip button because you do not like a certain song. With "Simple Things" I can just put it in and not worry bout it. It's great!

I love this CD and the truth is, if you like relaxing piano solo's and love to just chill out after work, or whatever it is that you do, you will love this CD as much as I do too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relaxing for Baby!, December 13, 2002

Forget Mozart, try Jim Brickman and his piano! We had trouble getting our little one down each night and found out by mistake (and good fortune) that this CD works! We play this, "Destiny" and "Love Songs and Lullabyes" for baby, Mommy and Daddy nearly every night. His music is very soothing, relaxing and classy. Play it in the evening, in the car, for baby, for backgound music while entertaining, after a stressful day, and, of course, to set the mood for a little romance! You won't be disappointed with ANY of his CD's. We keep coming back for more and are pleased everytime. This is great stuff! By the way, I'm not a big fan of instrumental music, however, I absolutely fell in love with his style and class! Don't waste anymore time....go get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars BACK TO BASICS, July 3, 2002

What can I say about this cd?
Jim still amazes me after all this time. His love of the piano is surely reflected in how he plays. He knows just what to play to make anybody relax. I was at work when I was listening to this cd and for approximately 45 minutes, I was not at work. I forgot what I was doing and just floated away.
He relaxes the mind, body and soul.
He is the true master of the piano. <Billy Joel, Elton John and John Tesh have nothing on this guy>
Jim knows how to make the piano sing.
On this cd, you can imagine why he titled it "Simple Things." In a world full of cell phones, fax machines, the world wide web, "boy bands", too many cars,... Jim brings us back to a time when we should be relaxed and carefree. We spend too much time rushing here and there. Jim takes us to a place that we seldom go to; our imaginary place.
I really do not have much to say about this cd except that it is fantastic. Just like Jim's other cds, I floated away. I was lost in the delicate and soft sounds of the piano.
Thank you Jim for once again making a great cd for those of us who forget to "get away from it all."

I heard "Simple Things" on the radio and decided to buy this CD.

With most music today, you have to constantly adjust the volume because one track will be too loud and the next will be too soft. This CD keeps the volume constant, so every time a new track started, I didn't have to run to the CD player to adjust the volume.

This CD is also pretty mellow, so I can listen to it anytime, anywhere. It's one that you can just put on while you're cleaning or doing laundry. It is also great to put in, just to listen to while relaxing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, May 16, 2003

Jim is flying high with some of his best works. Night Rain is very moving indeed (even if the DVD playing in the background of his concert goofed up). What ruins the entire CD is Mother's Day. I've had to set my CD player to never play this song. Sickly saccharine, it sets my teeth grating. Still, without that song, a great CD.

I just love this cd. Jim Brickman plays the most beautiful music I have ever heard! There is so much rage and hatred in the world that it is being expressed in most musicians music everywhere. Jim brickmans music gives you a chance to escape all of that to a more serene and tranquil place. His music takes you to a a simpler time when the world was not so chaotic. His music helps you to relax and unwind after a very stressful day. If you really want to relax and get away from it all this is definately the music for you.
