5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I bought this book because I just love Jim Brickman's music. This book is one of those books you read a chapter at a time and reflect on the content. Jim has made me laugh and think back to those earlier years and to step back and realize what is important in life. I highly recommend this book and it certainly could not have come at a more appropriate time in light of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Advice....If You Have The Money To Use It
I live a very complicated life, full of stress, and devoid of time. So when i received Jim Brickman's book for a gift I thought there would be alot of usefull information in it. There was, but I don't have the time, or the money to do most of what was suggested. Most of the advice seemed to be targeted at people who are already succesfull. Like I said, the advice is...

I highly recommend this book and it certainly could not have come at a more appropriate time in light of our Nation's tragedy. God bless America!

4.0 out of 5 stars Simply put, one should read this book., January 13, 2002

As befits its title, the book is an easy read. You could leisurely read and enjoy it on a plane or train ride. And I agree with finding something simple (such as brownies) as a "pickmeup" when you're slightly down.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a book that helps the reader remember what is important, August 25, 2009
This review is from: Simple Things (Paperback)
I have purchased this book and have also given it as a gift. The reader is taken on a short journey that ends with a feeling of being relaxed and of being reminded of all those Simple Things...that keep us going and keep us connected. I hope Mr. Brickman writes another book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A truly inspirational book, December 22, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Simple Things (Puffy Books) (Hardcover)
M. D. Gray, author of "Smilosophy:Getting More Smileage Out of Life" , heartily recommends this book. This is a book that will enhance the readers view of life and living. In addition to the book, there is also the music cd with the song "Simple Things" on it that packs a powerful message.

This book takes the reader down to real life. The readers of Simple Things are brought face to face with the issues that matter, many thoughts are shared about the common issues and things of this life. I highly recommend this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Book, December 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Simple Things (Puffy Books) (Hardcover)
I recently read the book, and like a previous reviewer said, this is definitely the kind of book you read one part at a time. Its a nice book, and like Jim's music its very personal and not complicated. I hope he will write more books in the future that are more "insightful" - I think Jim Brickman is an interesting person..

This review is from: Simple Things (Puffy Books) (Hardcover)
I live a very complicated life, full of stress, and devoid of time. So when i received Jim Brickman's book for a gift I thought there would be alot of usefull information in it. There was, but I don't have the time, or the money to do most of what was suggested. Most of the advice seemed to be targeted at people who are already succesfull. Like I said, the advice is wonderful, but often clouded with Mr. Brickman's pathological name dropping. Every chapter teems with quotes and annecdotes starring famous people that are all apparently "good friends" of his. Also hard to get around is Mr. Brickman's self hype. First of all before I read this book I had never heard of Jim Brickman Author, Composor, or Musician (and I try to keep up with a little bit of everything), yet he refers numerous times to situations where he was recognized by average Joes while out in public (or by George Clooney while walking around his Los Angeles Valley neighborhood, name drop). I'm sure Mr. Brickman had the best of intentions when he wrote this book, but how about giving advice to the little person on how to simplify their life. You know, the type of person who's worries amount to a little more than the noise level in their favorite juice bar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Charming, but not very original, January 2, 2002
By
This review is from: Simple Things (Puffy Books) (Hardcover)
I bought this book while he was in town for a [store] opening. I have seen him in concert twice. I immensely enjoy his music - especially "Picture This" - and the album "Simple Things" is no exception. So I was interested to hear what he had to say.

I have no problem with his lack of qualifications - he's quite honest about that at the beginning. When he talks about his family, life on the road, or about how he started his career in music, it's delightful. The quotes at the end of each section are enjoyable too. He gets a little preachy with some of his sections about "slowing down" and "enjoying life". I also get bored when I hear people ramble on about "the way things were".

What knocked this review down from four to three stars is his obsession with food as a cure for depression. A couple times he mentions that it's okay to eat a full pan of brownies or a whole tub of whipped cream. That's not advice he's qualified to give, plus it could give people an excuse to overeat.

It's a good purchase if you enjoy his music and want to learn a little more about him. In and of itself, it's not all that original.
