Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Björk and Ignell (the author of Favorite Rag Rugs, 2007, and Favorite Scandinavian Projects, 2010, and the editor of Vävmagasinet, a Scandinavian weaving magazine) provide an accessible collection for novices, filled with 10 different patterns and more than 30 individual projects to copy. Readers will still need to master the basics of warp and weft, overshot and waffle weaves (among other techniques), yet the authors feature excellent color photographs and full-fledged instructions, with techniques, materials, weaving finishing, weft sequence, appropriate graphs, and other pertinent information discussed. Many weave patterns will ring familiar to American crafters, such as twill (a herringbone pattern), waffle, and rosepath (flower shapes). For the most part, projects are home based: pillows, tablecloths and runners, rugs, towels, blankets, and one bathrobe. --Barbara Jacobs

"This lovely book explores the relationship between color, structure, and function, lending insight into that appealing aesthetic. The author's approach combines the best aspects of a weavers study course with a set of projects that readers will delight in making for their homes. Simple Weaves is a treasure trove of weaving ideas and inspiration." —Hand Woven (January 2013)

This book has many good ideas, projects from the Swedish magazine Vav. Nice simple, mostly 4 harness. The projects show the nice clean Swedish design. I have found a lot of inspiration from these easily adaptable projects. This would be useful to both beginners and seasoned weavers.

This is a book for floor looms and not simple looms. Otherwise, it is great and has some nice ideas and is well laid out. For those moving up to either a table loom or a floor loom, it would be a good addition to the library.

I am a semi-beginning weaver, having been learning for a year or so now, and I enjoy getting books with projects, weave structures, ideas, and information to grow my library for when I have my own loom at home. This book is beautiful, for sure. I loved the cover - and the projects are nice looking too. I love the Scandinavian style and the actual projects are really pretty.

That said, they are very simple and with a little creativity and imagination, you can plan out one of your own without this book. I had already ordered it when my instructor told me it was very simple. I enjoy looking through it for sure, but you can look at photos on the Internet which give ideas and inspiration for projects to do yourself.

If you are pretty good at coming up with simple ideas on your own and planning out a project with weave structures and colors you have selected, then don't get this book. If you need help, need ideas or complete drafts and project patterns to get you going on projects, then this would be a great book for you!

A lovely book for Scandinavian weaving designs and drafts. If you are a weaver you will want to pick and project and start weaving!

It has many wonderful simple patterns, want to try them all. Would recommend to any weaver that likes to work with cotton.
