- died after 2 days

- tech support was useless

Let me start by saying I'm an above average computer user, who has owned three different external HD's, and has been building computers for 15 years.

If you are looking for a drive to store important backups or documents on this drive, I would NOT RECOMMEND this external drive!

Although the case is aluminum, which helps keep the drive cool, backing up large amounts of data, or making the drive work hard, heats it to the point of failure. There is no cooling fan in the case. I recently lost 120GB of backup files, docs, and emails when the drive, less than two months old, failed. I pulled the drive from the case, and it was EXTREMELY HOT! My current data recovery software was unable to recover the drive, but I was able to recover the data using a different recovery program, after installing the drive in one of my desktops. The software cost me $100. That almost doubled the price of the drive.

This drive is an excellent value. 400GB for this price is unbeatable, external or not. At this price, you can pull the drive and install it in your system for almost unlimited storage, and throw your old hard drive in the case for external storage.

I don't know what the other reviewer are talking about. I've had this drive running for over a year (only powered off 2 or 3 times) and its been rock solid. Its not pretty to look at, but very solidly built and survived a certain misuse as well.

This product will ruin your life.

Backed up all my data and then it just died a month later.

No recovery. Not even the Geek Squad could bring it back to life.
