Henry Oosterveen, Jr., wrote this collection of eighty-three poems and shorts between 1998 and 2005. Some were written for an occasion such as a family reunion, the birth of a grandson, a sister's birthday, the passing of a friend or just to express a feeling, a thought - a memory. His poetry is a gift that came to him during his fifth decade of life. A few of the poems have been published in univeristy level literary journals and some in a previously published book of poetry - Simplemente Palabras I. We think that it is fitting to gather all his work together and publish it in another voulme to commemorate the beginning of his sixth decade.
Simplemente Palabras II es una colección de 83 poemas e historias cortas escritas entre 1998 y 2005 por el autor Mexicano-Americano, Henry Oosterveen, Jr. Algunos poemas fueron escritos por una celebración familiar, el nacimiento de un nieto, el cumpleaños de una hermana, la muerte de un amigo o simplemente para expresar un sentimiento, un pensamiento o una memoria. Otros fueron inspirados por eventos reales, no necesariamente en la vida de Henry sino, a veces, en la vida de otra persona; o hasta de una película, una historia leída o escuchada, una situación política o una canción. Sea cual sea la inspiración, Henry fue capaz de situarse dentro de la situación y expresar los sentimientos que sentía al trascurrir el evento. Algunas de sus obras son conmovedoras y otra, otras son profundas y hasta oscuras, y otras son graciosas. Muchas veces se sintió inspirado durante la noche. Algunos de sus poemas han sido publicados en revistas literarias universitarias y algunas en otro libro suyo titulado Simplemente Palabras I. Hemos reunido todas sus obras y publicarlas en este libro para conmemorar su sexta década de vida. Pedimos a Dios que le de buena salud y felicidad por muchas décadas más. Simplemente Palabras is simply the best book of poetry in Spanish that I have ever read. Henry Oosterveen, Jr. grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and the words of his poetry call to mind his experiences as he came to be the man he is. A Mexican-American by birth, Henry describes the joy, the angst, the successes and the failures of a life that spans 60 years in the city that he loves. A great work of poetry written by a great spokesman for Mexican-Americans everywhere.
