Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Rohr, a Franciscan priest and internationally known speaker, was invited to Germany in 1990 to present a series of sermons on the spiritual life. This book is a compilation of some of those talks. Rohr believes that the Christian Church and its people need to take more chances in their relationships with God and the work they do for him. He expresses a concern that the church is of ten paralyzed by its need for control and constant reflection. Promoting an active faith, with an active commitment in the world, he encourages his audience to live a daring life, trusting in God and acting upon that trust, without devoting large amounts of time to analyzing the actions that are taken. While some of Rohr's ideas are not new, there is much food for thought here. Most Christians should find this interesting reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the Only Way, May 11, 2000
This review is from: Simplicity: The Art of Living (Paperback)
Richard Rohr offers such insight that I could hardly turn the page without marking some bit of wisdom that I'd want to return to again and again. This is not a practical guide of "how to". Rather, it challenges the reader to begin to discern the right questions to ask him or herself about their perspectives of their own reality. Happiness begins there. Really living begins there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking outside the box, October 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Simplicity: The Art of Living (Paperback)
Richard Rohr invites me to think outside my "box". I read this book in one weekend on a retreat. It wasn't my copy and I couldn't mark it up so I ended up writing a big chunk of the book in my journal. I did later obtain my own copy. It is refreshing to read an author outside of ones tradition and Richard Rohr's Simplicity I would highly recommend!
