Customer Reviews

Bobbin winder works very well after practicing how to use it.

Bobbin had to be placed upside down to get it wound correctly, thread support does not stay upright when the power is on, the spool flies off the spindle.

Now I can wind a bobbin when needed without unthreading my sewing machine and then rethreading it.

I read quite a few of the reviews before I ordered this product. To familiarize myself with it, I watched the video on YouTube about getting started, which was very informative. In spite of this, however, there few a few things I was doing wrong and I would like to pass on some tips if you're having trouble. 1) make sure the thread is secure in the tension mechanism. This mechanism has a screw at the top to adjust the tension. Before pressing the "start" button, I suggest giving the thread a gentle tug to make sure the thread is where it's supposed to be, and the tension is where you want it. 2) Avoid (at all cost) turning the speed dial down to one if its lowest points. I did this and couldn't figure out why the thread kept slipping off the tension disks and my thread was tangling in the bobbin. It was a mess. Suggest keeping the speed at mid-point; maybe a little higher. Once I adjusted the speed dial, the thread stayed in the tension, and my bobbin wound beautifully. 3) Take your time getting used to the machine. It will work properly with machine and operator adjustments. Take care.

I just used my new Deluxe Sidewinder and I love it! It's VERY simple to use and works very well. I've been using the original Sidewinder and while it was OK, its motor was unable to wind bobbins from large spools or cones of thread. There is no hesitation in the Deluxe Sidewinder--it has a powerful little motor and runs like a dream. I love that you can adjust exactly how much thread you want wound onto the bobbin too. I highly recommend this little dynamo!

After reading a lot of reviews about this product I decided to try it myself. I have a Viking sewing machine that uses the green bobbins. I simply followed the instructions, used the blue spindle for the Viking green bobbin and adjusted the tension on the thread.
Some people reported that they had to turn the green bobbin upside down. I found I did not have to do that.
The thread tension is important so be sure and pay attention to that.
After using the Deluxe Sidewinder I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be able to wind lots of bobbins. If you do embroidery work or fancy stitching this is the machine to have.

You can wind a viking green bobbin but you need to place the bobbin on upside down. It takes a bit of pushing but it will go on. It also spins a small amount, where as if it is placed upright it doesn't move. So I'm not sure if this is a good solution. The upside down bobbing does seem to affect the winding somewhat. My unit didn't wind the bobbin uniformly until towards the end. It did finish up nicely but I haven't had time to test how it works on my machine. There also doesn't seem to be any sort of auto stop feature. You need to watch the unit and power it down using the actual power switch. It doesn't make sense because you have an adjustable fill knob that pops out when your bobbin is full to the setting you choose. However it doesn't actually stop the machine, it seems to be more of a notifier. I do feel they misrepresented it a bit since they specifically list the green viking bobbin. So unless you want to wind your bobbin upside down you might want to look for a better solution.

I purchased the Deluxe hoping it would be better then the orginal Sidewinder. I am very unhappy with this purchase. I experienced what others experienced, bobbins wound in such a way that they were useless, and the thread coming off while I was trying to wind a bobbin. I have reverted back to winding 5 or 6 bobbins on my sewing machine before I begin a new quilt.

Got this for my wife as she uses a lot of cone thread. She really enjoys it after she finally read the direction to use it.

The wife just got this and wound a couple of bobbins for her Janome without a problem. One thing to note it has 4 color spindles for different bobbins and changing them out requires a bit of force to extract. Putting a different spindle in was easy they snap into a small hole, but I used small pliers to pull the one that was already seated out. You have to be careful not to crimp the tension spring on the side of the plastic spindle. The directions were lacking in this area.

Worked great at winding my Husvarna green bobbins. However, all bobbins were wound in the wrong direction. Couldn't use them in my embroidery machine. So, I tried putting them upside down as one reviewer suggest. Not good, forcing them on the spindle will only cause the spindle to break in time. This sidewinder needs to go back to the engineers to be revamped. Design it so it will wind thread in both directions.
