This is one of the very few patterns for size 5x male shirts. Because it has very few pattern pieces you can easily tailor the pattern, and upscale the size to 8x and make it longer for a big and tall size (but if you enlarge the pattern remember to fit the pattern before sewing, just to catch any errors). The measurements are true to size to purchased shirts of the sizes listed on the pattern.
The pattern is the usual Simplicity quality, and the directions are satisfactory. If you are a beginner, just take your time and surf the internet for lessons on making sleeves and collars correctly. The pattern piece for the "lap band" isn't labeled very well, but when you come to it in the sewing directions it will instruct you.
I like that it can have a shirt pocket on both sides of the chest, so nice for big men, and that you have a "yoke" pattern piece from the cowboy shirt that you can modify for adding a tailored yoke piece to the man's shirt to make it a bit more interesting.
This is a good pattern to buy several copies of, unless pattern makers magically decide to start making more patterns for larger men....

Wow up to 5x this is a hard to find pattern and my husband loves homemade shirts with snaps for his arthritic fingers. This will give him a lift. I cant wait to get started.

Was very happy with the sizing and style of the shirt. Very much an appropriate western shirt. Thank you much.
