5.0 out of 5 stars Top Shelf
I bought this CD back in the winter '02 and this is the best chill out CD that I have. I have a lot of chill out music and people that don't even listen to this music have been begging me to make a copy for them. I tell them that I paid a lot of money and waited for over 2 months for this CD to arrive from Europe and it is worth every penny and they need to get it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just doesn't do it....
I'm a big Stephane Pompougnac fan, and when I started looking around some of amazon's recommended artists, I came across a whole article on lounge/after hours music, with this CD at the top of its list, so it looked promising. I tried it and found the loops are waaaaay too repetitive, and there is no musical skill here at all; everything is rhythm. I will say disc 2 is...

I bought this CD back in the winter '02 and this is the best chill out CD that I have. I have a lot of chill out music and people that don't even listen to this music have been begging me to make a copy for them. I tell them that I paid a lot of money and waited for over 2 months for this CD to arrive from Europe and it is worth every penny and they need to get it themselves. I would highly reccomend this disc to anyone who likes good music without regard to genre. You will agree that this is fine music. This disc just has class written all over it. If you like Weekend players, you gotta get it. The disc is bangin'.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Simply" a different level of music, February 11, 2002
By

This review is from: Simplicity Y2K (Audio CD)
As a born American, I must say that this CD goes a long in proving to me that the best music in the world comes out of Europe.

The shy, but stunningly beautiful Rachel Lloyd leads most of the tracks on this compilation masterpiece. Her voice is incredibly smooth yet penetrating as you can feel the full range of her emotions in every verse of each song.

"Breather (Arithunda Mix)" is an upbeat remix that can make any bad day seem like you just won the lottery. Yet the conversation tone of the original version can cause one to feel wrapped in a state of blissful passion.

"Falling" is another amazing cut in which Rachel's passionate, conversational style pulls you into a state of how it must feel to deeply desire someone who may not even know that you exist.

The instrumental cuts "Blue Bar" and "Dub In Ya Mind" (Ibizzarres Insatiable Mix) allow one to transport themselves to any spiritual place of solitude.

Finally, "Cry" (Factor 15 Sunset Dream Dub) is one of the best songs that I have ever heard. The Flamenco guitar style is amazing, but the lyrics seal the deal for me everytime:

"I wish upon the reasons for myself.
I ask you for a reason I was there.
I asked you --knowing now I'm lonely--then.
I had called upon you there,
the reasons for I know that,
I was once setting sail on your ship.
You questions.
The reasons.
I cry."

Do yourself a favor and buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Balearic Bliss, May 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Simplicity Y2K (Audio CD)
The Hed Kandi label is hands down, the most consistent label I have ever come across. Their flagship artist is Afterlife, and after hearing "Simplicity 2000" in its entirety you will see what I'm talking about. This is music for the beach, for the bath, for whatever it is that you do to kick it. Sara Rapnell's vocals are absolutely beautiful. The production on this double disc album is through the roof. It has a very crisp, Balearic vibe that calls to some distant island off the shores of Spain. You'll find a lot of flamenco guitar, very nice breakbeats with the occassional drum and bass track, waves breaking, wind through hair, sand between the toes, while listening to this album. Seriously, grab this one if you can find it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, February 8, 2001
This review is from: Simplicity Y2K (Audio CD)
I can't tell you how hard it is for someone like me to find this quality and excellent kind of music as I am not in high school or college and don't hang out at clubs. But when I do stumble upon this music it's just WOW! I first heard Afterlife while in a bookstore. It was the remix of Breather and I ran straight to the clerk to find out what the CD/Group was. It turned out to be a compilation. Not being impressed with the compelation as a whole. I took note of the group and went out and bought the CD "Simplicity Y2K". When I put it in my CD player it was just like listening to a slice of heaven. The singer Rachel has a beautiful voice and the music is something like a cross between jazz/electronica and trance. It really is something else out of this world. Afterlife sounds a bit like Esthero without the edge. If you like Esthero or Morcheeba you definetly will love Afterlife. I recomend you get Simplicity Y2K because it has some great mixes in it and comes on two disks. It is definetly worth every penny!

This CD will definitely show you something. One of the best tracks on the album, the clean bass and looping guitar creates
a atmosphere from where there is no escape. Sit back, try to relax and let yourself go.

"simplicity" is simply good. The mixes between SPANISH GUITAR and chillout beats on "never before" and "cry" sound AWESOME !!!
Afterlife's music is sometimes TRIP-HOP, sometimes DRUMS&BASS but always good. I love (and you will love too) the 11th track "blue bar" with the piano intro, the beautiful trompet solo after and all that with a slow trip-hop beat...
IT'S WORTH [the price] !!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Friday night w/ a cheap bottle of wine, October 20, 2000

If you like Swayzak, Dido, Hooverphonic or Supreme Beings of Leisure it is safe to say that you will enjoy this 2 disc cd. The lead vocalist has a voice similar to that of Hooverphonic and Dido. The style of the ablum reminds me of some of the more mellow songs on Swayzak's earlier ablum "Snowboard....." Check it out and I'm sure you won't be too disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chillout Defined!!, October 23, 2006
This review is from: Simplicity Y2K (Audio CD)
The CD - Great album sleve, design and song arrangement. The Afterlife has perfected chillout to its max........strecthing the limits to chord changes, electronic downtempo beats and vocals. Believe me when I say that it took me forever to find and buy this CD. It's a gem!

The music - Great drum and electronic beats. Check out "Dub in ya Mind" and "Blue Bar" on CD01. Rest of the songs are just as good.......which features great female vocals and remixes. I just don't know how to put it - this music is like nothing I've ever heard before - very cool, relaxing and clean. It's almost angelic if you ask me. Please do the chillout/ ambient genre a favour by buying this CD asap!

To sum (CD01)- The use of female vocals are incredible!! Great well composed/arranged beats!! The ultimate in Chillout!!

CD02 pretty much features the same songs but remixed differently. Well, the downside of this whole album would be CD02. It has more uptempo chillout beats which one can find repetitive at times.

To sum (CD02) - Great remixes by Chris Co Co and Arithunda. Great uptempo chill with blissful beats. Not a good companion to CD01 but great sampler.

The Artist - Well, what can I say: The Afterlife rules! Their music is not only inspiring but well put together. Very cool and classy. If you are still unfamiliar with the group - just let me say that I've seen the artist appear in most chillout compilations (mostly in the Ministry of Sound chillout and Cafe Del Mar CD series). This should pretty much tell you how well recieved the Afterlife is. If you are unable to get this album (which is close to impossible), try getting the artist's other albums which are the "Afterlife Lounge", "Speck of Gold" and "Journey" - which are all masterpieces!!

CD good for - 1)Studying, 2)Chilling alone, 3)Chilling with your "lover", 4)Before bed, 5)Writing, 7)Wind and Cheese parties and, 6)Just about anything cool and relaxing!!

OK E-Nuff said - "The Afterlife is the dub master of chill!!"
