This book was written specifically to help teachers at any grade level run a simple aquarium, and through it, introduce simple biological ideas to their students. It begins by guiding the teacher who has no biological training through the process of buying, setting up and running a small classroom aquarium successfully, easily, and cheaply. The author discusses a time-proven way of setting up an aquarium without pumps, filters, heaters, and the other paraphernalia normally sold in aquarium shops, saving you time, unneeded complications in care, and reducing costs to a bare-bones minimum. A discussion of the pros and cons of equipment, along with the author¹s suggested choices, is provided. Later chapters discuss the common fish and plant choices that are hardy and will flourish in our unheated, room temperature tank. Many enlightening demonstrations and experiments have also been included on water quality, life forms that can be found in the tank, how to make your own foods, breeding recipes for the fish, and how to grow organisms to feed the fish, all presented simply, with the cheapest of materials. Even the most experienced high school biology teacher will find new ideas for demonstrations and group activities for their classrooms. Teachers will find that the book will help students, from the youngest of ages, become comfortable with science and awaken their intuitive biological instincts and develop a sense of biologic, which will benefit them greatly in their future studies and throughout their lives.
