5.0 out of 5 stars Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way
I am a professional organizer that lives in the western suburbs of Chicago. I read many many books on organization. I think this book rates at the top. I have read it cover to cover and I absolutely love it. What a wonderful book! I love the Simple Prayers. It's so nice to read a book that is faith based. What a refreshing idea. So many of my clients would appreciate...

3.0 out of 5 stars How Housewives can organize their TIME
This book is geared very specifically stay-at-home moms, specifically Christian stay-at-home-moms. It is focused on how to organize your time and to prioritize activities so that your house and life are more pleasurable for everyone in them. It is not for your average person looking to organize their things, or even their life, as this book really focuses on someone who...

5.0 out of 5 stars down to the basics, February 10, 2004
This review is from: Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way (Paperback)
The previous reviewer needs to keep an open mind when reading books like this. Look on the bright side, if you are a single person, you have the benefit of only having to organize one person-yourself. The tips in this book can be applied to any situation, just keep an open mind and a positive attitude about it. I found the book to be very informative, with lots of real-life examples. It was easy to read. I appreciated the Christian theme as well, but that was not a significant part of the text. Just a short prayer at the end of each chapter. I like the fact that the author emphasizes staying organized once you are there and what to do in crisis situations. I highly recommend this book, and for the price, it can't be beat.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas that really help in organizing your life!!!, March 29, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way (Paperback)
I just finished this book and absolutely loved it. I am a mother of seven children ranging in age from 13 to 9 months and things can get crazy. The suggestions in this book have really helped. Some days are deinitely better than others but the advice in the book is so helpful it is easy to keep plugging away.

I plan to re-read this book in a couple of months just to refresh myself with all of the great ideas!!

5.0 out of 5 stars These techniques work, January 23, 2006
This review is from: Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way (Paperback)
I've applied most of these techniques and they work. I'm happy to have received this book as a Christmas gift.

I have my personal organzation area in order, menu planning down and am ready to tackle the laundry situation.

To Alison who must not realize that there ARE women who want to serve their families and the Lord. This book is particularly geared toward women who want to accomplish those goals and is a great organzational guide for anyone, I've found, even those who aren't much interested in serving others. It is hard to believe you didn't come away with anything positive to help you get organized. You must have missed chapter 11 which goes over delegating chores and skills for indendence with children, which does not support your opinion that "the head female in the household does absolutely everything". Perhaps this was merely a sounding board for your disdain for women who enjoy being the heart of a home. Hope you find your own path and may you find many blessings along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Ideas and will work if you follow through, June 8, 2005
This review is from: Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way (Paperback)
This is a good book...I like Emilie Barnes' books also. I think it is more interesting to find that the one less-than-favorable-review is from someone who is so organized that they "accidently" purchased a book they did not want. With that said...I think it is written to real people who have real lives that need suggestions on how to be better organized.
Being orderly is for those who value their time and want to enjoy it without neglecting their responsibilities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Practical and Useful, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Simplify Your Life: Get Organized and Stay That Way (Paperback)
Everything about this book is organized - including the way Marcia Ramsfield presents her systematic method of simplifying all the major compartments of life. She presents practical ideas that are immediately usable and are designed to have life at home and at work running smoothly with as little maintenance as possible.

First, this book is definitely geared toward women, whether working or homemakers. It also includes a short devotional and prayer at the end of each chapter for those who are interested in incorporating it.

I liked the way Ramsfield suggests targeting one facet of life's stressors at a time and really focuses on helping the reader get control over it before moving to the next. She begins with mealtimes and moves through clothes & laundry, cleaning, and projects. She then focuses on special areas, including work life and holidays.

I felt her chapter on holiday organization was especially helpful, and her chapter on cleaning was a bit weak. I didn't feel better equipped to develop my own cleaning schedule based on that chapter. I feel the rest of the book does compensate for that weak point.

This book focuses more on simplification of the stressful facets of life rather than direct organizational techniques. It is about developing good habits, but does incorporate some practical suggestions for your tangible organization needs. For an excellent resource of the nitty-gritty organizational specifics, I highly recommend "Confessions of an Organized Homemaker" by Deniece Schofield.
