Card-making Simplified,

This review is from: Simply Cards: Over 100 Stylish Cards You Can Make in Minutes (Paperback)
This book is excellent for the beginning card maker, but also challenging enough to satisfy the experienced. I especially like that each project offers a second option using the same or similar materials. The photos are clear and very helpful with the instructions for each card. Each card project is on a two page layout making it very easy and clear to understand. And "simply" is the key word. There are no highly involved, time consuming projects. You could sit down after supper and enjoy the satisfaction of a finished project before bedtime. In this busy time constrained world, what more could you ask for?

This is one for Hero Arts Stamp lovers!,

This is an utterly fantastic book. In fact it was so good that I purchased 3 copies, 2 of which are gifts for my sisters for Christmas. The book uses a lot of Hero Arts Stamps in it card designs, and as I and my sisters love the range of stamps produced by this company (we have lots of the stamps in our rubber stamp collection!) you can understand why I thought it would be a great book to purchase. The book ranges from easy and simple designs to more complex ones for experienced card makers. In the first section of the book, you are shown the range of products used in creating the card designs, the various types of inks used are explained, what tools have been used and also telling you about the wide of papers and card products available for card making and how/when you would use them.

Simply Cards is a wonderful book for beginners like myself. Sally uses different techniques with stamps, assorted papers, masks, embossing powders and watercolors. When your finished you have a wonderful 3-D card for yourself or a friend.
I would recommend this book to anyone from beginner to craftperson.

Not good if you don't own stamping supplies,
This review is from: Simply Cards: Over 100 Stylish Cards You Can Make in Minutes (Paperback)
This book relies mostly on stamping. I don't do any stamping but was looking forward to scrapbooking the cards. This is not for the scrapbooker unless you are willing to purchase several stamps. I wish the description would include the fact that you will need to use several stamps.

you can't find the Hero Arts stamps she uses! I don't have much imagination, so I tend to copy ideas I see. There are some terrific ideas for birthday cards, but I can't find the stamps!

Almost endless inspiration,

This review is from: Simply Cards: Over 100 Stylish Cards You Can Make in Minutes (Paperback)
It's brimming with quick & simple but very attractive designs for almost every occasion, and I do not doubt that most of the 100 designs can be completed in minutes. They do, however, rely heavily on specific designs of rubber stamps and decorative papers, but with just a little bit of ingenuity, you can make substitutions. In that respect, it's also a great resource to just thumb through for ideas.
The full-color pages are large, well-organized and consistent with two pages alloted to each design. This includes a large view of the final plus a mini-alternate project or design using similar materials. The instructions are fairly brief but perfectly adequate. Also, the book itself (a paperback) has a very durable binding that allows it to lay open and relatively flat without the pages coming loose. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is as a caveat: since the book is from 2006, many of the supplies may no longer be available or may be difficult to come by in some areas, but as I mentioned, substitutions can be made. And that may not be a drawback at all unless you want identical results. At any rate, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Better than expected!,

I'm just beginning to make cards so when I read the reviews I thought this sounded like a good book to start. It's so much better than I expected. With these cards no one will know I'm a beginner! It also has very helpful pointers about supplies and techniques. It was an excellent choice & I imagine I will use it for a long time to come.

I am a beginner to card making, starting when I thought it shouldn't be difficult. But then when I have all of the materials needed, which were ready made blank cards and some stickers, then I realized alot more is needed, and the most importantly: "the know how". This book is awesome, it teaches me in a simple and clear way how to do easy, great and classy cards. It helps me tremendously, as it also explains what tools and accessories to buy. Now I found out that making cards is not simple, and it also expensive.. It's fun though.

This book is definately not what I was expecting. Very disappointed! The content is very much for the beginner card maker, someone who has never made a card before and who has no idea where to begin. Written instruction for each card was simple and easy to understand and illustration for each card was great, which is vey helpful if you are a fist time cardmaker. My opinion: a great book for anyone who wants to get started on stamping/cardmaking without much of a challenge. For anyone looking for a project with a bit of a challenge to it, then this book is probably not for you.

I purchase so many books about card making. This one is full of colorful ideas that just jump out of the page begging to be created. Excellent choice if you want a great how-to book. Easy to understand and make. I love this book and recomend it to everyone.
