I own about 30 house books and this one is in the top 2 of my favorites. Like the previous reviewer mentioned...it is not modern in the cold sterile style....but in the real, classic, packed with good taste, intelligent modern....i cant seem to get enough of the book...have looked at it a million times...something about the energy of the pages...no pretentious "designerish" spaces......my husband and i are in the middle of designing our own house....unfortunately...a new house could never come close to the deep rooted charm and depth of the spaces in this book...and the reading is excellent...personal, interesting....completely real....if you like good taste..and not just the target modern look....a MUST BUY

I know that authors frequently don't get to choose the title of their books but what was the editor thinking? The title is misleading and I'm miffed that it didn't meet my expectations. I would have bought a book titled Simply Wabi Sabi. There are great photos of spaces well worth looking at but the objects and settings are anything but Contemporary. More like Eclectic or Rustic. See if you can find a copy at the library before you decide to buy.

Indeed an inaccurate title for this book......eclectic, global, yes; contemporary, no. But that little misnomer does not interfere with the visual enjoyment this book delivers.....each picture has small details discovered only after the 3rd or 4th viewing and in this way, it is like a new book each time it is opened.
