5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Kelly !, October 22, 2002

I can't believe I can honestly say that I love this album. When I heard she was coming out with a solo record I had my doubts. She seems like the weak one out of the DC3 click which I am personally not a fan of. She shines over them all on this album though some of the songs sound just like DC3 is performing them which makes me see that Beyonce' does not have that great of a voice because Kelly's tone can outshine her anyday. Anyways Simply Deep is nice though I think the title track could have been left off the album... I couldn't tell whether it's Solange or Kelly Singing it doesn't matter anyway. Well hears my run down.
1. Stole- is nice it has a catchy hook but I hate the reference to Kobe Bryant...maybe she should change it to MJ or Vince Carter somebody, anybody but Kobe. It gets 4 stars.
2. Dilemma-What else can I say everyone else likes it so I guess I do too. I think that I am going to like it a lot more once they stop playing it so much. 5 stars
3. Haven't Told you - I like it it nice not radio material but nice. 3and a half stars
4. Can't nobody - This song with the Bonus track Make you wanna stay is worth the album alone. This song is one of the best songs on the album.. I just can't stop playing it.It's addictive. 6 stars out of 5 stars
5. Love/Hate - Nice beat...nice words...the hook could be better it's something missing. But I like this song a lot. This is another one of the good ones. 4 and half stars minus half for that hook
6. Simply Deep - I don't like this but I think I might listen too it when I am really really depressed. The words aren't bad it could be worse but it's so what's the word special that's it. 2 and a half stars
7. Stranges Places - This is another song that tells stories .. she likes telling stories. But I like it the lyrics are different. 4 stars
8. Obession - This one is different don't know how to describe it just different. I guess it 's because she is letting her little sister write her songs she did this one and #6 and "13 which i actually like. I would have to say that she didn't do bad...not great but not bad at all. 3 stars
9.Heaven - Another slow song. It has and old school rythym to it. It's would be good to play when you're getting cozy. 4 stars
10. Past twelve - i like this song...nice beat...it sounds like something Rodney Jerkins would do.. it's smooth and it's less serious than some of the other songs on the album. 4 stars
11. Everytime You walk Out the Door - Another slow song...nice ..This is a come back to me baby song. like it though 4 stars
12. Train On a Track - I love her voice so much that I didn't know whether I liked this song or not. Because her voice is so great on this so i guess i like it then 3 3/4 stars
13. Beyond Imagination - I Love songs with a violin in the background.. i like this ...words are real serious just like most of the album. On this it seems like she has some aggression to get out. First time on the album that she uses her vocal power... 5 stars
14. Make you Wanna Stay (Bonus) - I love this song....This is the bomb I am serious. This rapper is new I think but they click..just like with Nelly. Love this hook ..I love this song did I mention that...This song is the bomb. Go kelly Go! This should be the second single it would shock the hell out of them. Just Raw 6 stars out of 5 stars

I truly believe this album is more than worth the price. It is really good and it shows that this girl can really sing. First of all she didn't have lots of major producers like Justin and Beyonce most likely will but this album it's her own. Though at times it sounds like DC3 style it clearly is unique. So i think you should rename your album Kelly if you're reading this and take off that track # 6 and name it Simply Kelly because that is what it simply is Kelly!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beyonce who..???, November 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
That's what you'll be sayin once you've heard this cd.Miss Kelly does all right on her own and I like her voice wayyyy better than awful Michelle's. We'll have to wait for Beyonce's solo debut before we can make comparisons but here's a review of the songs real quick:

1. Stole- Probably my favorite song on the cd. Meaningful lyrics kind of sad but not boring!!! Its about school shootings. (2nd single)
2. Dilemna- We've all heard this. Nice song, wayyy overplayed, but still nice although I don't really consider it Kelly's song.About a guy and a girl who like each other but the girl's already in a relationship. (1st single)
3. Havent Told You- I like this too. Its a nice little slow love song. I like the beat. Could be a single but I think only some ppl would like this song.
4. Can't Nobody- this is ok. I dont love it but i dont hate it. I usually skip over this.
5. Love/Hate- I like this. It has a little Janet Jackson vibe in the beginning.
6. Simply Deep- simply sweet. I like this one too but it had to grow on me.
7. (Loves Lives in) Strange Places- I like this song a lot!!! Cool beat!! Possible single.
8. Obsession- Ughh Dont like this song. Pass please.
9. Heaven- sounds interesting in the beginning but then gets boring. Its no slice of heaven that's for sure. (Sorry for the bad joke)
10. Past 12- I love this song!!! I hope its a single. Sounds like something Destiny's Child would sing. Upbeat song!!!
11. Everytime You Walk Out That Door- I like this too. The chorus is nice.
12. Train On A Track- I love this song!!! The lyrics, the beat, everything!!!! Hope its a single!!!!
13. Beyond Imagination- More like beyond boring. This one's a sleeper.
14. Make you wanna stay- I absolutely hate this song!!! The rapper Joe Budden annoys me.

Overall worth the money. Here's my top 5:
1. Stole
2. Past 12
3. Train On a Track
4. Love Lives In Strange places
5. Everytime you walk out that door

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelly's 'Simply Deep' Destiny, November 7, 2002
This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
Everyone figured Beyonce Knowles to breakout and be the first chart topping member of R&B super-group Destiny's Child, but unassuming Kelly proved the band's diva wrong. Kelly's duet with rapper Nelly soared to the top of the charts, while Beyonce, and her first solo effort failed to make even the tiniest of tiny dents. Now Kelly is up with her own solo track, in the powerful "Stole", and it is following the Nelly duet "Dilemma" to the very top.
The rest of the album is just as strong as these first two singles. It's very laid back, very smooth, on many of the tracks. The best of Kelly's chilled out cuts include "Simply Deep" with Solange, "(Love Lives In) Strange Places", and "Train On A Track". Not all the tracks are mellow, some do drive hard. Those are some of her best tracks, the hip-hop number "I'm Gonna Make U Stay" featuring Joe Budden, the rocky and passionate "Love/Hate", and the excellent "Can't Nobody" and "Past 12". Kelly really can pull it out solo.
An excellent album, a great effort in pop and R&B, a wicked debut release for Ms. Rowland. I wonder if Beyonce's work will even come CLOSE. Great!

At first i didn't really like many of the songs, but after a few listens it grows on you, but the problem is that it's not Kelly, i mean i cannot feel her, some song i do, but others sound like they could have easlisy been perform by Destiny Child. Here a rate of each track:

1. Stole - This is a perfect Kelly song, great lyrics, great beat, very deep and meaningful 9.5/10

2. Dilemma (w/ Nelly) - Everybody has heard it, overplayed 9/10

3. Haven't Told You - Similar to "Emotions", classic DC Track 8.5/10

4. Can't Nobody - i don't listen to this, so no rate

5. Love/Hate - i like this one, sounds like a brandy track, Kelly's vocals are very different 8/10

6. Simply Deep (feat. Solange Knowles)- I really don't like this, Solange is not the best singer, but she can write 5/10

7. (Love Lives In) Strange Places - Beautiful track, very good beat, very good lyrics, Kelly sounds great 10/10

8. Obsession - At first i didn't really like it, but it's so good you can't get it out your head, one of my favs 10/10

9. Heaven - another bluesy track, its a track for that late night love affair, very good vocals, and lyrics 9.5/10

10. Past 12 - MY FAV... hot club song, Kelly tears it up, she showcasing her style to a tee 10/10

11. Everytime You Walk Out That Door - My Secong Fav.... i love this song it could have been on THe Writing On the Wall, but still it's Kelly at her best 10/10

12. Train On A Track - now this is far from dc, which is good, the beat is amzing, and Kelly sounds angelic 10/10

13. Beyond Imagination- an also rockish track, which i love i think Kelly sound so good..... 9.5/10

14. Make U Wanna Stay (feat. Joe Budden) - Perfect ending to the album, uptempo track Kelly wrote it, it's a party jam i give it a 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars More Music Please., August 26, 2005
This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
I purchased Kelly Rowland's debut album the day that it was released. I also own both of Michelle Williams gospel LP's and reluctantly I bought Beyonce's album. I have every album released by Destiny's Child since the ground-breaking girl group became a trio. I must comment that as catchy as the albums are and as infectious as the women are (as a unit and individually); my reason for buying the DC albums was and is strictly Kelly Rowland. When the three came out with their solo efforts Kelly's was undoubtedly my favorite. Now that the group is parting ways professionally (I respect and appreciate the fact that the girls are such good friends and this split is not based on petty rivalries),I look foward to the flourishing of one DC girl's career in particular;Kelly's ofcourse. I hope and pray that Kelly will release more albums, appear in more movies and continue to endorse more products. And I hope that she will finally recieve the attention and acculades that she should have gotten along time ago for all of the success that she's obtained on her own. Kelly's voice is amazing (although there are times when I wish she would stop holding back and sing like she knows what she's doing). That is one thing that I must give credit to Beyonce for (she knows she has a voice and she's not afraid to use it.Although sometimes she uses it a little too much. There is such a thing as over singing. It gets annoying). In the future the only Destiny Child related albums that I will be buying are the ones that belong to Kelly Rowland (I have my own reasons for not preferring the other two). Kelly is the only artist of the three that I will continue to support, so I hope that she continues to make music for her fans and may she continue to excell in all that she chooses to do.

This faceless r&b cookie cutter of a release from DESTINY CHILD'S member KELLY ROWLAND is a big dissappointment. She sounds at times too much like BEYONCE'. SOLANGE KNOWLES(BEYONCE'S LITTLE SISTER) co-wrote some of the tracks and is younger than KELLY. She should have had more access to experienced writers.

The soppy first single "STOLE" is a rock-edged message track. Its not too bad and is kinda catchy the more you listen to it if you havent went forward by the end of the song. The second single "CANT NOBODY" wasnt anything special from anything else that was out at the time and fizzled at #79 on the r&b charts.

Her duet with rapper NELLY "DILEMMA" was put on the album for sales purposes only. She only sings the hook and anyone singing these days could have done that hook and it would have been a hit. Standout tracks are the emotional title track as well as "MAKE YOU WANNA STAY" featuring JOE BUDDEN. Other than that this cd is for completist who would like to have each members from DESTINY CHILD'S solo releases. For the average fan of music it will leave you wondering if KELLY has her own identity and if she has any input in how she sings and what it will sound like. Too much like BEYONCE' and the material is mostly filler. The good songs arent even enough to warrant buying this. Sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Deep? Simply Amazing!, October 22, 2002

This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
I downloaded this album a few weeks before it's in store date and all I can say is, we have a true star on our hands. I will be buying this album in a few hours and recommend this album to anyone who wants true heart felt singing with a little jazz. The faster songs hit hard and the ballads leave a sweet sound mingling in the air. The title track was written by Beyonce Knowles sister Salonge and also sings on the track. The track is powerful and is one of the best on the album. Kelly's current single "Stole" brings the realization of teen violence the music industry and is beautifully done. Kelly Rowland will shine outside the life of Destiny's Child. Way to go!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed method, November 6, 2002
This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
Kelly Rowland is the second member of Destiny's Child to drop her solo album, but I don't know if anyone actually ran to the record store to pick it up. When she helped Nelly deliver the chart-topping "Dilemma", a few people were starting to give her some props as a good R&B artist. But if you think Simply Deep is a straightforward R&B album, think again.

Although all the songs on here classify as R&B, many of the lyrics are intended to make you think, thus making the songs more abstract. Said lyrics can be found in songs like "Train On A Track" and "Beyond Imagination". But there's also a difference between being abstract and being weird. For instance, I don't know anyone that knows what "Stole" is about, and "Obsession" has bizarre metaphors about her and her man, like when she says she wants to be "the closest thing to alcohol" and "the closest thing to epidemic/Slightly your disease".

This album also has a lot of filler, particularly the party efforts "Can't Nobody" and "Past 12". There's also an obligatory Neptunes track, the dry "Make You Wanna Stay", and it features a rapper named Joe Budden dropping the weakest rhymes of the year. Also, I've noticed that on this album Kelly now sounds EXACTLY like Beyoncé.

Simply Deep is better than Michelle Williams' album, and it's about five times better than Survivor, but Kelly still needs to work on her material if she wants that classic album.

5.0 out of 5 stars We all know who has the best voice., November 8, 2005
This review is from: Simply Deep (Audio CD)
Sorry, hate to say it, but Kelly has the better voice. Although, Beyonce's cd was good, to me Kelly's CD was better, way better. Not one track, I had to skip, well maybe one or two but not like Beyonce's CD. Every other song on Beyonce's CD was a skip track, lol. Beyonce was smart she had the right promotion and single choice. Which is cool, but you can tell by listening to this CD it is better than Beyonce's.

Ok, back to Kelly she sang her a$$ off on "Heaven, "Obsession," and "Stole." Eventhough the duet with Solange "Simply Deep."

I saw Destiny's Child in concert back in August and their destiny has been full filled. Which is good, because I'm ready for Kelly to come back and do her thing.
