Inspiration for the over-stressed, May 5, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Simply Relax: An Illustrated Guide to Slowing Down and Enjoying Life (Paperback)
This is the type of book that makes you feel good just flipping through it. It is simple advice, nothing earth-shattering here, but sometimes when we lose sight of the important things, and get too caught up in the ultra-techno-bigger-better-faster of urban survival, we can forget what is real and important.
The author has put together a nice mixture of relaxation methods, bringing together the staples of deep-breathing, exercise, living-in-the-moment, and journalling, while introducing the more esoteric disciplines of Taoism, Feng Shui, and meditation.
This is not an in-depth study of the different methodologies, rather, the options are presented to the reader in the context of the different chapters, some of which are based on the different senses, and others being focussed on overcoming obstacles, such as fear. It is up to the reader to further investigate the different methods.
Buy this book, fix yourself a cup of herbal tea, and curl up on the porch swing with a blanket and a purring cat. You will feel better for it.
