I also have the Simply in Season Cookbook for adults. Yes, I knew when I bought the Children's version it would be filled with recipes from the regular cookbook with a few exceptions. I am still glad I bought the Children's cookbook.
We have had it for almost 2 years now. It has gotten a lot of use. I love all of the pictures in the book. It gets my 6 y.o. excited about picking out a recipe. Cooking with my daughter has helped her discover her love of new foods. It's even spurred her interesting in gardening. It has helped our family go from being fast food junkies to healthy eaters. She loves the Secret Chocolate Cake which uses beets, yogurt and whole grains to make a delicious chocolate cake. You don't feel as bad having desert when it's tasty but still has some nutrition. She likes eating healthy foods without me having to be sneaky about it all of the time. Out of all of our children's cookbooks, this one is my 6 y.o. daughter's favorite.

Seasonal cooking for kids,

Simply in Season is one of my favorite cookbooks, so I had wanted this cookbook for a long time. It doesn't have a lot of recipes, but most kids cookbooks don't. The recipes in here are written well--in simple, clear, language. The pictures are aesthetically pleasing. I loved the 4 prayers that are in the book at the end of each section for the seasons. This isn't a religious book, but it is published by a mennonite publisher and I enjoyed the prayers. At the beginning of each season's section is a poem about the season which I look forward to reading with my children through the year as we make our way through the seasons.
I've been looking at a lot of children's cookbooks this week and I loved the first two pages about the "11 easy steps to fun cooking and eating" and the introduction to the cookbook. I thought the 11 steps were perfect. There isn't a big section about kitchen equipment or safety, so I would recommend other cookbooks with more thorough information if you want that. But, this is one of the better children's cookbooks I found. The recipes are good and well written. The formatting and binding of the cookbook will make it easier for kids and parents to use and it's big enough for everyone to look at together. I am really looking forward to cooking with this cookbook with my children.

Eat local, garden for goodness sake. This fabulously handsome photographic cookbook is a delight for all ages, but kids 6 to 14 will love it best. Simple nutritious recipes presented with enticing photos not only emphasize grow-your-own, but using local produce, in season. There is absolutely nothing you can say about the recipes except YES I CAN DO THAT! and the sense of astonishment for the bounty of the garden is an ever-present theme. It is a feast for the eyes, would be a great classroom cookbook, and is most highly recommended.

I like to teach my three school age kids about what produce is in season and how to cook to take advantage of this. These recipes are simple and tasty with great pictures. The only complaint would be that there are not enough recipes!
