Most books about writing and journaling are intimidating. Reading these books about writing, I end up feeling even more inadequate and unable to write. Reading this little book was like having a gentle kindergarten teacher sitting with me, encouraging me, showing me that I can do it. Think Mister Rodgers. And there is a big plus. This is not just about keeping a diary. This is about meditation. This is using writing to turn inward and connect with your Inner Teacher, your Inner Guide. Father Fran teaches a very simple step by step process for going deep into an altered state of mind, a meditative state of mind. It's as simple as imagining yourself leaving the marketplace, stepping up on the porch of your inner mansion, stepping across the threshold, and into the living room and kitchen of your mind. He makes it as simple as remembering your childhood home. With each step he invites the reader to write about what comes up. What comes up in your mind, your thoughts, memories, feelings as you stand on the threshold? He makes what was impossible into something that is enjoyable and do-able.
